Plus playing without Tanev and he’s most likely playing hurt, disappointing loss for sure. There still are 9 games left with 18 points available but they haven’t shown it all year but who knows, maybe they can finally get on a winning streak but I don’t think it’s likely.
It been a beef for me all season that they don’t have a captain. Flames are still missing a top player or two and were only playing with 5 NHL didn’t when Stone got hurt and he’s really a 7th. Before they got Troy Stecher.
It’s just a lot of things not gone right this year.

The power of rebuilding through the top of the draft affords bad organizations the opportunity to be middling (the Oilers), and good organizations the opportunity to win everything (the Avalanche, Lightning).
If you really believe that then you believe this organization isn't capable of winning anything, ever.
Buffalo was terribly managed. Edmonton was terribly managed. Buffalo is now well managed and turning a corner. Edmonton is finding middling "success" (and kicked our teeth in).
Tampa was well managed. Colorado was well managed.
I guess I'm the optimist in hoping that the Flames would fall into the "well managed" group, and not the "terribly managed" group.
Also, both of these terribly managed teams are better positioned than the Flames are...so, even if we ended up with the Buffalo or Edmonton rebuild - we'd still be better off.
|
If fans have no faith in the organizations ability to rebuild, why on earth would they have any more faith they would turn it around on the fly?

People seem pretty entrenched in their positions.
Treliving was dealt a tough hand last summer, and, on paper, he worked a miracle it seemed like. This season has shown that things didn't work on the ice.
With guys like Lindholm and Hanifin up for contracts next season, it seems like Calgary needs to figure a lot of things out.
Personally, I think the Flames desperately need to rebuild.
For me, after 18 years of wandering the wilderness, getting past the first round 3 times in that time period...got into the playoffs 9 times and missed 9 times. Between 1990 and 2003, they made the playoffs 6 times, never winning a round.
History tells me the Flame will unfortunately choose not to rebuild, leaving Flames fans in the same spot next year.

I don't think a full rebuild is required. With the contracts we have expiring, I think it's enough for a retool and go again in another year.

he's been terrific at giving free agents a place to retire with untradeable contracts

It must just be nostalgia for people. I could only make it through their first couple episodes, which is a shame cause I really like Pinder.

Or were too young to remember it.
I was 8 so I still remember it. The next day at school was shoe day and my dad painted a Flames logo on the front of my shoes and attached tinfoil Stanley Cups where the laces were.

Shoe day?
What weirdo school did you go to that didn't require shoes every day?

Agreed, I would also think a retool is the path forward
Players who have 1 year left before they are UFAs, should be moved prior to the draft.
Some of these are going to be tough to resign...

I miss the 80's Flames teams. That was some of the best hockey with those legendary battles with the Oilers.

When can we let Huberdeau use Hossa's equipment?

The thing I dislike about Frank is he just jumps from ship to ship depending on which side fits his narrative/gets him views (which is part of his job dont get me wrong)
Just days ago he was talking about how signing Huberdeau so early on was the wrong call and the Flames should have waited. He's openly bashed his play this season etc.
But then all of a sudden he's an 80M+ player and not playing enough?
Okay Frank we get it bud.

The most Flames think would actually be for all the UFAs to walk and then the Flames limp into a rebuild

Really after 1980 as they wouldn't have been old enough to really enjoy the experience.
