The person I responded to said to give Huberdeau until December. That's two months.

not my stats
honestly your bias is so ridiculous there is no point even talking to you...by every measure used to judge a hockey game their guy was better
pretty sure you were like this with Vladar last season too...making up nonsense stats that don't exist because you are the smartest guy in the room or something
|
These metrics don't always tell the whole story though. Is the expected goals a save that should have been made, or a goal that should have been buried? It goes both ways and it's not always on the goalie and to add there are different levels of high danger chances.
IMO, for the most part, Flames D left Vladar out to dry (Tanev failed to take away a cross-crease pass, Andersson giveaway, etc...).

Didn't get to watch the whole game; passed out with some kind of infection after the first period.
I did get to see some of Joey Daccord's saves, though. Just throwing this out for anyone who wants to bat it around:
This was Daccord's first NHL start of the season, and 12th ever, and he got the start more or less at the last minute. Maybe he's making some of those 10-bell saves because the Flames' skaters don't have much of a book on him and can't exploit his weaknesses? His style looked a bit unorthodox to me.

Daccord isn't a rookie to the NHL though. A lot of these guys have seen him before.
When you make the backup look like a starter (or an all star) thats usually on you. I don't think he was challenged very much. All of the "fantabulous saves" as Singh put it seemed like luck more than skill.
Sutter talked about lack of finish the other day and we saw it last night in a number of ways.
Full disclosure - I do love that even the Kraken social team calls him Joey Meh

No kidding. Talk about misleading shot total. Kraken walked into the slot at will last night. How many breakaways did Gourde have?

Considering they "walked into the slot at will" and Gourse had multiple breakaways, hard to imagine they only had 5 high danger chances.
If Marky had played like Vladar did last night, most here would be up in arms about his performance.

I watched the game. Not sure where 5 high danger chances comes from but I can recall a handful more than that. 10-bell chances, much like the Sabres game.

One of those defeats from the jaws of victory type of games. That 5 on 1 was hilarious

The vaunted best defense in the league has looked anything but. Chemistry just isn't there with the team. A road trip will hopefully help. November is ugly and could leave the team in a bad way after blowing the homestand against some really beatable competition. This will be where Sutter earns his money.

? Blowing the homestand against beatable competition?
Wat
Maybe if they lose the next two...Flames have had the hardest strength of schedule in the league thus far and are over a 100 point pace. Winning the next two would make it a great start.

It's early but I'm also starting to think it might be a systems issue for him. And I don't mean he needs time to learn it like some are saying, he's a really smart player I don't think that's a problem at all. But he seems to be always so far behind the play that he probably needs to adapt his game which I could see being tough at this point of his career.

I think the defense is the best in the league... when healthy.
Without Kylington, it's more flawed. I'm not talking about Stone, per say, but rather just the chemistry / roles.
I think Kylington - Tanev is a pair that really elevates this team as a whole. It elevates Tanev, and it also elevates a guy like Lindholm or Huberdeau who may not be a natural puck rusher. And finally it improves the backcheck because, well, Kylington is a top five skater in the entire NHL in a straight line. He erases chances, period.
Subsequently, putting Weegar on a pair away from Tanev opens him up to wheel and deal and really put his stamp on every possession. I have not seen that yet, but I am confidence we will. Whether that pair is Weegar-Andersson, Zadorov-Weegar, or Hanifin-Weegar remains to be seen, but we will have options when Kylington returns, that I don't think we have the leeway to execute right now. The Tanev pair sees the toughest matchups, and there are risks in being too aggressive in that role.

The title of this thread would be Markstrom blows it again if he played the same game as Vladar. Vladar didn’t play poorly but he wasn’t good.

No "bad" goals but not enough big saves
Wasn't good...to be fair with barely playing due to the schedule it wasn't easy

The coaching staff has a lot of material from the game at least. Mental lapses leading to goals.
The passes weren’t crisp throughout the night though. New line mates getting used to each other. I wonder if Sutter switches the lines once again or gives the new look lines another shot for the game tomorrow

Yeah, that's the way I see it. I didn't think any of the goals were bad(they don't have to be unstoppable to not be bad goals) and I don't blame him for the loss but I think it's pushing it to say he had a good game.
