Demo is quick, but construction is certainly going to take more than an offseason.
For reference, I work for a firm that (semi) recently added a second rink to a BCHL arena. The building is obviously significantly less complicated than a new NHL arena would be.
It took 1 year to go from signing the fee agreement to getting into the ground.
It then took another 1.5 years to go from breaking ground to opening ceremony.

There will be a 4 story above-ground parkade with space for 190 vehicles attached to the arena.

Bear in mind Edmonton is an NDP stronghold. DS giving money for Calgary's arena would basically just be an 'own the libs' move.

Notley was asked a question. She answered it.
Was Smith asked a question on this, or did she initiate this?

Let’s ask Ja Rule what he thinks.
Right and it was silly to ask her in the first place, she has no decision making power.

She's an elected MLA. Leader of the opposition. Campaigning for the premiership in like 7 months. I for one am happy to hear her thoughts on anything related to our province.
It appears Smith did initiate this with her letter. Simple buffoonery.

I think any attention from the premier on a new deal is good. I don't care if its political or not. The Sportsnet Flames people sure liked it. Its pretty easy for me being from the US to see who's conservative and liberal from this feed...lol

Interested for your thoughts: which politic appears to be more fiscally prudent? (e.g. not supporting the public funding of an arena for a private company)

The casino was hurt really badly by COVID. I don't think it ever re-opened.

Every time Francis mentions the arena on intermissions panel he basically says 'f*** Nenshi and Gondek'. Good little solider for the ownership group that Eric Francis.

An unelected Premier should STFU until people actually vote for her.
That clown doesnt speak for me.

I don't know why other poster said demo'ing the dome and building there would make it take an extra 3 years. But I was also forgetting the flames/wranglers/hitmen still need a place to play during construction so obviously unless they are going to play somewhere else, the new arena will be a new location

groaned when i saw premier getting involved in the arena discussions. Mainly because it turns something that should be happening between the Flames and the city into a public spectacle and political battleground. Now it's a partisan thing. Now Notley is weighing in and every know it all in Alberta thinks they're a genius because they discovered "Field of Schemes" and they're quoting how public money for private infrastructure actually isn't a good deal like we haven't heard it all before for 7 years. its just tiresome.
