I don't like not having 1sts because the draft is fun. But the pick is going to be mid 20s or later so value wise it makes sense. At this stage I think Pelletier has more value than the 2022 1st so glad it went that direction.
Overall seems like a very solid deal to address the biggest need. Nice piece of business.

Toffoli has the determination. Not sure he has the high end skill this team still needs.

He had 28 goals last year.

Well kind of down this morning knowing that Flames weren't playing on my birthday and therefore wouldn't get a gift à la Saint -Valentin's massacre...
But wait! what? Flames got me a Toffoli instead?
Thank you Flames!
Best present ever!!!! Ouch! (wife just smacked me on the head!)

Wow - friend just sent me an NHL draft eligible article I did on Toffoli back in he day - whatddya know - actually still kinda relevant haha...
"...His skating his not at an elite level but he is solid on his edges and strong on the puck. He will likely continue to improve in that area as he has this year, improving his quickness already as the season wore on. His offensive potential is his biggest allure. He already possesses a NHL level shot and soft hands to go with. He is a tireless worker who utilizes superb hockey sense to be in the right place at precisely the right time. He is also not afraid to dig in the corners and does not shy away from physical play."

Yeah. Still doubting he’s got the game for it in the tougher defensively west.

They don't need more high end skill for the price that would cost. They need depth scoring which you yourself say this is. A decent 2nd line scoring winger who is a Sutter player.

More importantly this likely means no big upgrade at C and we are riding with Backs as the 2nd line C.
I've said for years this team can be a legit Cup contender if Backlund was the clear 3rd line C but unfortunately that's still not the case.
|
He scored 28 goals, last year. He's a finisher. Has 9 on a terrible Habs team that is 31st in the league in GF. Could absolutely see this guy catch fire and finish with 25+ to end the season. It's a huge pick up.

This is the right move for the Flames. This is 100% the year to go all in and Toffoli is like a RH Coleman - solid player.

Sweet! That's a good deal. IMO the top ten protected pick is the only tangible asset the Flames lost . It's a win. Welcome to CGY Toffoli!!
That's a locked and stocked top 9 fw. No holes whatsoever.

You have to think Darryl is very pleased. Which means we are very pleased.
Excellent pick up for Tre, very well done, and love the timing - gives Tyler a chance to get acquainted with the boys and the system.
Looks like a seamless fit.

Lots of history with Sutter as well, who has had him on cup winning teams.
Awesome trade.

Team is playing well and with questions marks around Gaudreau and Tkachuk moving forward you might as well toss some chips in.

He was just fine in Vancouver and L.A. no reason to speculate a downside because of the conference.

Toffoli is still only 29- all this over the hump is nonsense. He's playing on the worst team in the league. He also had some lower production years in LA when they were in the dumps. IMO he's a guy that feeds off team energy. Good thing we're on a winning streak.
