I think they'd look great next to each other on that fourth line. I'm still a little skeptical of Ruzicka's ability to produce consistently without a talented distributor alongside him, and he has great chemistry with Phillips.

Ritchie is not an NHL-calibre playmaker. We don't yet know if Phillips is and he's earned the right to try and prove he's better than a guy with zero points in 17 games.

Spoiler!

What a great win. Flames follow up their best effort of the season with...their best effort of the season? 62 shots? WTF. Who does that? Franchise record for the Jackets. Enjoy!

Best part of the game was listening to the CBJ announcers from start to finish. Love those guys. They are easily the biggest homers in the league, for a while now. Was amazing to hear the dips in their voices as the game went along, all the moaning and complaining with each call against them. Until finally, finally, they submitted and just started praising Gaudreau and the Flames until the bitter end. Casually calling Flames goals while they bantered on about how good Johnny was. Was beautiful to listen to.

Shoutout to the one PBP guy when Markstrom took the penalty, he dove into great detail about how the goalie can't sit in the penalty box and another player has to serve it. Eye opening stuff .

Slowly but surely the absolute stink from Saturday's loss to the Oilers is washing off. Have to give Sutter credit. Worst loss of the season and he turns the next 2 games into the 2 most dominating games of the season. Perhaps of the past few decades.

Was a rough patch for a bit, but Flames starting to get on a roll again and win those games in hand and back into a playoff spot.

I was able to catch chunks of the last 2 periods, and it was glorious to watch.

Go Flames go!

Matthew Tkachuk scored twice and the Calgary Flames fired a team-record 62 shots on goal in trouncing the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-0 Wednesday night.

It was the most by a visiting team in a regular-season game since the NHL started tracking shots on goal in 1955-56, according to STATS.

The Flames have been increasing their shots on goal in the past 5 games. They had 28 against the Sens, 31 on the Panthers, 47 on the Oilers, 48 against the Blues, and now 62 on the BJs. Do we see 63 or more shots tonight against the Blues?

The Flames would be well served to add another top six forward not just to strengthen their top end, but also to push one of those two guys out of the lineup.
You keep saying this, but it simply isn't true. Here are their EV goals for and against:

Ritchie: 7 / 8
Lewis: 15 / 18

Not great, but not the lopsided black hole of suck you are trying to present.

The top line is simply the best in the league - they are outscoring the opposition by about 3/4 of a goal a night. All the Flames need is for the rest of the lines to play even, which they are for the most part, other than Monahan and Dube (and Monahan is coming around).

If the Flames can add one middle 6 forward, in order to generate a little more offense, they will be in great shape.

Isn't that what Scorp is saying though? Adding a middle six forward will push one of Lewis Richardson or Ritchie out of the lineup as a result. Addressing secondary scoring in the middle six will also solve the 4th line issue as a byproduct.

Scorp is saying that Ritchie and Lewis are awful, and that Phillips would be an improvement.

1) they are not, they are doing their job
2) Phillips is unlikely to be helpful on the 4th line

I am saying Phillips makes no difference (and is likely negative on the 4th line).

I am saying we need a quality middle 6 player - someone who can generate 40 to 50 points at the NHL level.

The fourth line started chipping in a bit more in the third period, when the game was already all but decided, but man ... that's a laughable result from the first 40 minutes. The Flames are really, really, really good, but they still have some weak links.
Lewis and Ritchie finished the game 6th and 7th on the team in expected goals. Must have been a whale of a third period.

Makes me wonder if they had a bust in that graphic.

A GIF of Igor dancing in a Flames jersey would be all kinds of awesome.

Yeah this is a lesson in small sample sizes. Across the entire game, with Ruzicka on the ice we allowed 5 shot attempts and 0.02 xGA. With Lewis and Ritchie, 6 shot attempts and 0.13 xGA. It's quite likely that mid-game when this graphic was made, we're talking about a stat line like 3 shots against, 1 for.
