3 on 3 is just a bunch of random crap.

Glad to see they got the point at least.

Since shot attempts are the most useful way of describing useful (read: non-turnover) offensive zone possession, I have to disagree with you overall.

For some comparision, Glen Gawdin, who only logged two games and was sent down on waivers, had 59.34 On-Ice Shot Attempts/60 playing with Brett Ritchie and Trevor Lewis as his linemates. And while the team didn't score with him on the ice, it was Gawdin's line that directly contributed to Lindholm's goal against the Ducks.

I'm not pretending the Gawdin sample size is big enough to read too deeply into, but if the goal is "a low production unit and grind out forechecking shifts. He uses that line to hem in the opposition late in periods", then they've been thus far not been able to match what that Gawdin line already gave us.

I do realize there are other factors that need to be considered - road vs home, quality of competition (since it appears Dube's been most sheltered since the shift to centre) but I nonetheless feel the expectations for this line are being set so low, that the line's being praised for things it's not actually doing as consistently. It's starting to feel like a participation award.

Great post. Really feel like Monahan is getting praised for doing simple things any warm body could do. Participation award. He has looked average to bad every single game this year.

For sure, we all would expect more from Monny.
I thought up until last night and perhaps the Nashville game he was actually looking pretty good. Mind you, he was centering what we would call the 4th line, but he looked to me like he was playing a solid 2 way game and atleast generating a little bit of offence.

I thought last night he looked pretty lazy and so did pretty much everybody

Mount gets saddled with Lewis and Richardson. See how you do. Set the guy up for success. Like to see him between dube and mange.

I guess that’s my point. I still don’t get why someone would look at that game and say he was the issue. Not sure what was expected from that line.

Did you see some of the guys Derek Ryan was saddled with last year? Nordstrom, Simon, Ritchie, Lievo?

He still managed to make an impact with his transition game.

Totally. Not singling out Monny last night. Everybody looked off. Hopefully last night was just an off night along with playing a team that for whatever reason seems to have our number.

Here’s to hoping that the level of play from the previous 8 games are the norm this year.

Gotta laugh how down this place is while the Flames are off to their best start since 2009.

What was the result in 09/10?.... exactly

oh and the 01/02 season, great start... end result?

We should learn from those years, not getting overly excited over 10 games in a 82 game season. I wouldnt say this for most teams.. but we are flames fans.

If you can't enjoy wins, then why do you watch?

Celebrating the kind of start this team should be getting every year because they managed to finally do it for the first time in 12 years is silly.

6 wins in the first 10 feels like an expectation for a group that spends to the cap. We've just finally had an adequate start.

Good job not putting yourself in a deep hole to start.

The Flames are currently in 5th place in the league. That's 27 other fanbase who would be happy to take the Flames start. I'm going to enjoy this. People can complain we didn't get Eichel, but that doesn't detract and sour a good start to the season.
