Coming out is difficult enough for a lot of people, but I imagine that it would be especially difficult in sports. It makes me wonder how many gay men have been raped and blackmailed to keep quiet about it in fear of also being outed.

These guys are a bunch of cowards and liars. Beach was clear that the players knew, because they mocked him. It’s despicable for them to plead ignorance now. And Quenville isn’t speaking to the media tonight.

I just finished watching the interview.
I played hockey up to Junior B, highlight being making a national championship tournament as both a player and a referee. I refereed for 24 years at an elite level up to AJHL and CIS, including the rookie game that had Monahan and Gaudreau.
I don't mean to be melodramatic, but I love hockey a little bit less today. And that really hurts.

Aldrich admits there was sexual activity. In a sport that wasn’t known for taking a stand against homophobia a decade ago, Beach risked his fledgling career to go to his team to report something that most men are extremely unlikely to report…against a guy who was known to threaten the careers of players.
Beach participated in all investigations and his account stays consistent over a decade. The guy who he reported subsequently harassed a Blackhawks intern and then abuses a high school player and ends up going to jail and is listed as a sex offender. Beach then bravely comes out publicly with his real name.
It astounds me that anyone could ever doubt what Beach went through.

I really don't believe anything anyone from that organization (Hawks) has to say. Sucks for those that actually are telling the truth, but there are so many lies and liars I just assume everyone involved (not Beach) is lying through their teeth. They all knew.

Others were complicit in covering it up. Sick and pathetic - but, hey, you got your ring.
Surely it is only a matter of time before the players that made disparaging remarks to beach are outed.

Did these guys take training on how to sounds a bad as possible? Honestly, short of coming out in support of sexual assault, I cannot imagine anyone being this tone deaf without actually practicing.
Lying about their knowledge, giving vague answers about whether they wish the events transpired differently, defending the people who helped cover it up, making lame attempts at trying to claim ignorance.
It’s dumbfounding how anyone, even a “dumb jock”, could think this is an acceptable approach.
Kane and Toews are dead to me. I want to go to a Hawks game just to boo them and flip them off.

I saw somebody tweet this but it really holds true that the issues probably lie much deeper here.
This wasn't covered up to protect the teams GM. It wasn't covered up to protect a team's head coach. It wasn't covered up to protect a teams star player.
It was covered up to protect a freaking video coach.
If all these guys were willing to go through all this for a video coach, it makes you think what else they would cover up for people is much more prominent positions.

Omg Toews even went out of his way to mention how special the cup win was and said winning is everything and was consumed by it. Yikes.
Kane at least looked and sounded earnest and sympathetic. Although he still tried to deny it.

Beach would have been at camp the next year. He was still a promising prospect. So what did Toews do for him at camp? Nada.
