Like the original poster, you're giving up possession. When I was coaching minor hockey or playing, I always believed in making the other team take it away from you then giving it up. Dump and chase you are essentially giving it up and trying to retrieve it. That's not an efficient way of playing or using your energy IMO.
I’ve got bad news for you for the next 3 years.

I'm fully aware, I've already started taking cold showers and crying myself to sleep.

Sort of correct, but it also gives you an opportunity to punish the defenders with crushing hits on the boards. And a quick forcheck has as much a chance of not more to retrieve the puck as a dman that has to turn around or skate backwards.

It's not giving the puck away, it's placing it in the offensive zone for your teammates to skate to.

Having lived in Ottawa for a while it cracks me up when they show all these cool sites between the whistles. Because I know where they actually are, which is an hour away.

Those rim passes to the point go out of the zone on the PP way to often.

For those watching the TSN feed, how awesome is that overhead view of the offensive zone from centre ice they just showed? I want more of that.

On the lines without a big body they typically ring it. It’s more of a cross ice pass with extra steps.

With the right roster I could see dump and chase being more effective... big and fast can win possession more often than not... I think Sutter might actually get more out of a roster of a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners than a smaller skilled team. Good news for Tre is that they are cheap and easy to find.

Lads looking quite good this period. Lacking finish but if they keep playing like that they'll eventually start going in.

No kidding. And then they wonder why players get disliked- because they shove it down our throat.

Do these media guys have a secret bet who can work McDingus' name into the least applicable situation?

There is a time and a place for dump and chase, the key is to read the situation rather than refusing to do it at all out of principle, or to always do it.

Teams need to be effective at both, otherwise it becomes pretty easy to stack things up and create neutral zone turnovers if a team won't dump it in and it gets pretty easy to get a head start back to the puck if teams insist on constantly dumping it in.

I think people get hyper-focused every time they see a dump-in, even if it is the most likely scenario for success at that time.

Well we need more than 1 goal to win, so should be a good test from the boys.
