This is on both goaltenders. Calgary had 3 goals before Dallas even had a shot. Their goaltending absolutely let them down tonight.
Now, if we want to look at the series as a whole then yeah, Talbot was great. But tonight was 100% on the goaltending.

Anyone who doesn't think the Flames controlled the play this game isn't thinking clearly right now
natural statrick shows a lopsided game in the Flames favor...other than the obvious

After firing Hartley, he brings in Gulutzen who has no track record. One of the worst coaching hires I’ve ever witnessed.
Fire him and bring in an old school, hard ass coach in Peters. The problem is that he had never proven anything. Usually the hard ass coaches are more effective when they’ve won something. That’s my take.
Then they fire him after his inexcusable racist comments and let another unproven NHL coach Ward ride it out. That’s sometimes the right option, but not when Gallant and Laviolette are free.
How are players supposed to develop and succeed when all of that is going on? Gulutzen, Peters then Ward? Brutal.
|
This is a huge problem with the team. They didn’t like Hartley so they quit on him. They quit on Gulutzan (although he legitimately sucked). And I think we saw them quit on Peters this year too before the incident.
This team’s core is rotten.

The game was tied. The shots were tipped. Calm the #### down. You don’t throw in a guy who hasn’t played competitive hockey in months.
Like I said, if you want to gamble, there are stakes. Heads have to roll.
If the coach can talk his way out of this with the GM, then the GM goes.
7 straight is the type of humiliation that you can’t accept in the big leagues

Do we honestly think a legit coach wants to come near this team? Maybe if we back up the brinks truck, but doubtful that happens.

My thought is Ward proved he is not HC, Talbot is not 100% starting goalie, and Flames never will play after 1st round with this group.

New team, new franchise, new GM, new uniforms. Let’s just zip up this version of the Flames and lock them away forever- forever to be forgotten. Let’s move on to a new brighter future starting now. Let’s clean house and declare a complete and utter re-start across the board. Almost like an expansion franchise or something. Let’s wash our minds of this entire horrendous ####ing experiment that is this abomination of a team.
I’m ready to see new... everything in nice new fresh Flames silks. Blow it all to smithereens. Like... ALL of it.

Can we do a dispersal draft and then quickly re-draft another team using the Vegas expansion rules?
I'd be up for that lol

I don't understand the Talbot love. He's slow moving and isn't very good at anticipating. He let in a couple shots that an athletic goalie would save and even the 7th goal he let in, that was a floater rebound.
Ward is terrible, Flames needed to have a five man unit up and down the ice and why wouldn't you dress Kylington for that just for his skating alone. Secondly the defensive strategy of collapsing is the worse when you don't have speedsters or big bodies. I've gone through many years of suffering as a Flames fan but the last two including playoffs have been the worse.
Treliving is terrible because we got creamed by Colorado last year and he did nothing to address this. Now we get creamed by Dallas. Rinse repeat.
I don't think we should bring back any UFA's. Time to get fresh faces, players that haven't contributed to our suffering.

I said it last year and I’ll say it again. The Hamonic trade sunk this team. Trying to force the team out of a rebuild by unloading assets for an average d man and average goalies was a very Flames thing to do. If the Flames don’t make those trades for Lazar, Smith, and Hamonic they probably have the assets available to pull off trades for Mark Stone last year or Hall this year. Hopefully after they blow this core up, which is inevitably going to happen, they will be patient before going all in on the wrong players at the wrong time.

Outside of goal 2 which was saveable but still through a screen what was really his fault?
First goal went off Lindholms stick.
3rd goal went off Pavelski’s stick, Gurianovs skate, and Anderson’s skate.
Guy was still the teams playoff MVP and I’d have no hesitation to bring him back in a tandem role next year. The more concerning piece is Rittich, who really seemed to lose his game and confidence after the drama with the Oilers.
And the coach on the other hand...don’t be fooled By the “coaching change” this is the same coaching staff that had no answer for how to break out against a heavy forecheck for back to back playoffs, and made the ridiculous decision to put in a goalie that hadn’t played in 5 months that was lacking confidence.

So 2 shots from the top of the circle with traffic and a shot that got deflected is Talbots fault we lost?
You want to blame a goalie? Blame Rittich. That was pitiful. 5th goal, shot right into his glove and he boots it.
The Flames are simply not good enough, top to bottom. They need a massive overhaul in the worst way. And I dont trust BT, he needs to go.

I wont let the poor goaltending of this game distract from the huge overall problems this team has. Let's keep our eyes on the big picture here. It's not one night of bad goaltending preventing this team from being good.

Ward just said he didn't make a mistake putting in Rittich.
Unbelievable.
