You can absolutely be happy that they won tonight but they NEED to be better to win this series. Tonight's effort isn't going to cut it going forward.

For sure. The game was an anomaly. Talbot, with little help, won the game for the Flames.
Flames, at some point will need their top end skaters to produce, play smartly and show some courage.

Big game by Talbot, but I thought Backlund also had a great night. played key minutes as he always does and of course was responsible for the first goal.

Rick Bowness showing a little frustration towards the end of that presser, calling Backlund’s game winning goal “cheesy”.
I love it.

Flames need the top line to show up, even if it's just for the PP.
Monahan has been criticized heavily for his lack of production (and rightly so), but I see him fighting through playoff tight checking in both ends of the rink. Gaudreau gets the puck in the defensive zone and gives the puck away almost exclusively when pressured. At the very least, Johnny needs to use his speed and elusiveness to draw penalties if he can't make the plays when needed.
|
Gaudreau needs to attack the offensive zone much more aggressively. He needs to use his speed to make more room for himself. His regular season tricks aren't going to work.

Hope so. He fires the team up on the bench. It's clear that he's taken the motivator mantle this post season and I think he's been the reason they became the most vocal bench by some accounts since the qualifiers. Would be a huge shot in the arm to go and take that stranglehold.

Flames only show up for 20 minutes in a playoff game and still win? Sure, why not!

They’ll have to wait a bit, but it’ll be worth it when that putrid logo is covered in champagne.

Solid games from Brodie and Hanifin. Gio's best so far (still a ways to go). Andersson's worst by far.
Backlund was good. Mangiapane had some good shifts. And the 3rd line.
Despite the effort, it's a big 2 points - come out stronger Sunday and take a stranglehold on the series.

Not to get in to it, but let’s look at the reality of it
Talbot was very good
Talbot was quite lucky at times. Lots of iron for Seguin and wide open net misses plus poorly placed shots
The Flames especially in the third were playing D which makes life easier for goalies
Talbot didn’t score. Backlund and Brodie did. Tremendous effort by Backlund all game

Some people are failing to remember that some players are going to get up to speed faster than others. They’ve played 8 games if you include the warm up game. Ya Johnny isn’t playing great but some people are gonna look really stupid if he gets going. Really ####ing stupid. Flames only chance of winning this whole thing is if he starts producing so you don’t demote him but put your confidence in him. Glad most posters on here aren’t in coaching
