Have we been connected to another player in the past month outside of Toffoli and Martinez? I can't recall now.
Who else would we be looking at in the coming days either for the RW or D? Feels like this break over the next three would be the most ideal time to bring someone in if that's the goal.

Calgary would be a better team with him on RW, the only real argument is if he was worth the acquisition cost.

Ok, let’s look at the Flames first two lines. You have Lindholm and Mangiapani right now. Mangi has 13 even strength goals, and will finish with 20-25. That pushes Taffoli down to the third, certainly the Canucks need him a lot more then we do. I agree he is not worth acquisition, he was a “nice” to have for Calgary, not a requirement.
Also I like Dube on the third line, TT would have brought something to that line, but Dube brings a lot as well. Really what the Flames have always needed is Backlund moved to a third line centre. Mangiapane is emerging as a top 6 winger, you do not want to mess with that right now.

TIL that Toffoli lead the Kings in goals and they've only scored 145 as a team.

I would rather sign 45-year-old Freddy Modin, and no, I'm not even kidding.

There are some rumours out there that the Flames are still interested in Kreider. They were apparently interested in him and Zuccarelo last deadline.

Last deadline would be key, since then he's signed a 5 yr $30m deal.
He is not a $6 million player

We don’t know that the Flames didn’t target Toffoli and just came up short?

Kreider is going to command more than Toffoli and chances of him re-signing in Calgary is pretty well zero. I just can't see the Flames paying a 1st round pick for Kreider if they weren't going to pay a lesser price on Toffoli. I think Treliving is going to play things cautious and maybe look for more of a bargain type of player if he adds at the deadline.

Theres a chance Kreider re signs in NYR making Buchnevich available too. Still think the Flames end up trading with the Rangers or Devils as far a deadline deals go. Palmieri is out of the question after seeing what they got for Coleman.
But guys like Zacha, McLeod, Gusev could be obtainable.

Whether or not he's a $6 million dollar player is debateable. 23 goals, 42 points in 57 games is decent. IMO, he is the type of player that the Flames need. A big-body, north-south guy who can skate and score. Unfortunately, he is a pure rental and he's a LHS. Both things I'm assuming GMBT is trying to avoid.

Hes talking about Zuccarello not Kreider. Kreider is probably worth 6 million. Do you want to spend the assets though and would he even sign here?

Teams are paying pretty ridiculous prices here
Flames should really be getting an idea for how much our rentals would go for. Feels like Brodie easily gets a 1st and Hamonic could get a 2nd plus a good prospect previously drafted in the first 2 rounds
Glad the Flames did not pay this price

I would be more excited as a fan to see us land a 1st, 2nd, and some prospects than I would be to see us make a minor add. Odds of that are slim to none though I think.

If the Flames trade Brodie and Hamonic for picks, they are essentially giving up on the season, especially with Gio already injured.
Not saying I don't think it's a good idea, but teams in playoffs spots don't do this.

It would send a horrible message to the rest of the players as well. If I played on a team that was in a playoffs position and it decided to torpedo the season, I would probably question whether I wanted to be there long term.

See, I always hear people say this, but the Blues did it two seasons in a row and it seems to have worked out for them in the long run.
If a trade brings value to the team that the GM thinks is in excess of what he's giving up, he should make the trade. The message being sent is "we make decisions based on our judgment about player value, not based on a look at the current standings".
