If I were the coach, I would healthy scratch lucic the next game and put Rinaldo directly in his place.
It was dumb to not play Rinaldo altogether. Complete misunderstanding of the type of game it was going to be.
I'd also think about sending Dube down. He's been extremely disappointing lately, and here I was already pencilling him into the top 6.
Also, can the Hanafin/hamonic pairing stop already. They aren't good together, quit forcing it already.

A lot of the "get what you can for Gaudreau" crowd is the same as the "get what you can for Brodie" crowd last season.
Brodie has arguably been the Flames best defenceman this year. I'm glad we didn't trade him for a bag of peanuts.

I thought I saw Anderson/Hanifin and Hamonic/Kylington for much of the game last night?
Kylington was struggling all night.

The fans wanted him gone for anything, I never said anything about the GM. Or did you miss that part?

I don’t remember fans saying trade him for scraps? You could be right though I never wander into the actual game thread as some of the most ridiculous takes are made in the moment.

Yeah they did, many of the same posters were saying "addition by subtraction, etc".
My only point is (in my opinion), trading players on emotion isn't always the best solution to improving the team (look no further than the Marc Savard knee jerk reaction).

I'd say the 3 games since the ASG are a pretty good snapshot of who they are (which is probably kinda what you meant).

Counterpoint: the only redeeming thing about this franchise since 04' is that we're not as pathetic as the Oilers. That in itself is pretty pathetic.

This was either the Pittsburgh game last year or the Vegas game before. Either way it felt big and one we will likely look back on.

Yeah, Hanifin got demoted because he was terrible, but Kylington was possibly even worse so eventually the pairing went back to the originals.

I agree with your overall opinion and I don’t think a reaction trade is going to fix the team. We learned that with the Phaneuf deal but I do think some major changes will be required this summer

Haven't we been saying that for all our crappy losses this year?

Flames defence is just awful. There were long stretches of Oiler cycling where all that was missing was circus music.

Bound to lose one of these games from time to time, but god damn did that suck a lot. I hate the Oilers so much. Draisaitl calling Rittich disrespectful for his stick flip makes my blood boil. What a god damn crybaby. Edmonton has the entitled victim complex down to a science!!!

Gaudreau has shown his entire career though that when the physicality gets ramped up, ala playoff hockey, he's absolutely useless. In four playoff series in total, the Flames have only won one with him around.
What difference is he really making that's going to make the team have playoff runs? What does he show in those type of games that he's the best player on the roster, which is what's expected of him?
Flames aren't gonna go far if he has to be the one leading the charge. He's a support player at best; not the gamebreaker as expected.

You have to think the Flames will seriously look at trading JG this summer.

Agreed.
The goal is the win the Stanley Cup. Not to just razzle dazzle in the regular season.
Can anyone honestly see Johnny surviving 4 brutal rounds?
...and I’m a Johnny Hockey fan.

Lots to hate about from this game and lots of players in particular.
I will say that Brodie since coming back has grown on me more and more. Wasn't afraid to back down in the 3rd when things were boiling over but still kept his poise with the puck and lead to clean breakouts of our zone most of the time.

Last night Flames got punched in the mouth.. but game was still entertaining as hell. Oiler fans cocky this morning, let's not forget we shelled them 5-1 in their own barn just over 4 weeks ago. They were bound to win one of these, can't go 0-5.
Next BoA is the final game of the season, can't wait! Hopefully Lucic isn't off petting bunnies or whatever his gentle soul does, or he can take a seat up in the press box for that one.
