I seriously love how Lucic is hard at work winning Flames fans over already during pre-season by showing work ethic, determination and a rekindled will to play hockey. This while Neal is already pissing Oilers fans off by just continuing to be James Neal.

Are Oiler fans actually mad at Neal? Or are they playing the classic "it's just pre season wait till the real season starts he'll be fine"

I was only able to watch the highlights on the game, but 1 thing i noticed right away.

PP1 - Last season = no net presence
PP1 - Last night = Lucic screening the goalie a ton.... thats what he does best, and he assisted on Moneys goal by doing that.

He may not have gotten the point, but he made it difficult for Comrie to follow that one.

Comrie's point of view: he was forced to track Gaudreau's pass to Monahan without seeing it the whole way, and then had to try and find the puck on again on a quick one time over his blocker.

Flames have not had that front net presence like that... i dont care if Lucic gets 30 goals or 2 this year as long as he keeps doing that.

As a former goalie, i can say it SUCKS when you have someone huge in front of you all game long.

I get what you’re saying and we all want Lucic to work out, but I’m pretty sure Tkachuk’s role was to be the net front presence last year on the PP. Although not as big as Lucic, Tkachuk was pretty good at it too - he scored quite a few sweet tip-ins/deflections last year on the PP.

I think with Tkachuk back, you place him back on PP1, and slide Lucic down to PP2 with the same role. Good net front presence, and tip/deflection ability on both units

Lucic was good last night, just a little unlucky not to score. I think he is going to have a big positive impact for CGY. I also recall it was said he was a super stats guy and really smart - potential GM material. Not that it matters much for on ice but I like that. Thoughtful interview too.

With Chucky signed I am super excited for what this team can achieve. Should be some good energy heading into start of season. Team is deep!

I think it's a lot easier to be a power forward on a good team than a bad one, it's a lot easier to sacrifice your body for a winner. Imagine being on the Oilers and being expected to play tough when everyone around you is either jaded or a sycophant.

I only caught bits and pieces of the broadcast. It seemed like everytime I tuned in, the announcers were really high on Lucic's play.

I know it's still early and pre-season, but that's a really good sign. So far it looks like he was simply a guy who needed a change of scenery with less pressure.
