Lindholm isn't bad at carrying the puck, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's very good at it either. Lindholm's at his best creating rushes with his defensive play in the defensive zone and taking advantage of out-of-position defensemen. Against set defenses he really doesn't have many counters IMO.
On most contending rosters I think Lindholm would be the third best puck carrier on a first line, not second best. And probably the third or fourth best puck carrier on a first PP, not second best.
On the bright side, Gaudreau is so freakin' good at it that it probably makes Lindholm "enough" as the second carrier in most cases.

Ill agree with Colin Miller and his 42 giveaways, but Ryan Reaves only has 11 giveaways all season to go with his 29 takeaways.
Johnny Gaudreau has 98 giveaways. Brodie is sitting at 81, Hanifin has 68.

Ryan Reeves plays around 10 mins per game. Comparing his lower number of giveaways to players who play at least twice as much as him is not especially informative.

I would welcome Reaves on this team for the same salary that Vegas paid. He is one of the best in his role.

Are you serious?! You better look at the stats more closely, Johnny is on the ice and handles the puck waaaaaaay more then Miller and especially Reaves. I Love Johnny Gaudreau!

Much like his giveaways Reeves's takeaways are a lot fewer than takeaways by Gaudreau (50), Hanifin (41), and Brodie (55).

I guess today is my day to defend this years Flames. Are you kidding me?!?! Hamonic has been a beast this season and pretty much his whole career. If the Flames have to trade a dman this offseason for cap relief I'm so trading Brodie and resigning Hamonic!

I’m mostly kidding. I’m a fan of the player.
But I’d struggle remember a play where he had possession of the puck. He brings the body though, no doubt about that.

It's going to be a battle who ever we play, but I know whatever happens this team is going to battle and play well. I would way rather have a bit of a slump/lack of puck luck now then during the playoffs. I guess being 42 years old I know anything can happen in the playoffs. The '89 Flames were unbelievable favorites against the Canucks and barely got past them and in 2004 we were underdogs against every team we faced. You would have thought we lost last night geez la weez!!!!!
|
I like your attitude.
It's true, we have been spoiled. We basically locked up home ice after 5 months. If we gave a rundown of events to cp in September of everything leading up till now anybody on this board would be more than fine with this 'scenario'.
We kind of took sitting pretty in first place for granted. But it's top spot for a reason. It is not supposed to be easy to take. Nashville and Winnipeg have had bad stretches too and despite the last one were still up on them. San Jose picked up Kane and karlsson and were pegged Pacific favorites and we've spent most of the season ahead of them. There is something to be said about that for this team. And whether we finish first or second, the team successfully put themselves into another category this season and can't be looked at as a bubble team any more.
It's a step by step process, and they've undoubtedly taken one, and no matter who they play they will not be an easy out. There is too much compete on this team for that. IMO Vegas looks quite beatable.
The way I see it is the closer to playoffs it takes for the top like to get off the scneide, the better. If they start rolling when the calendar turns to April, that would be if anything the best case scenario for this team. Getting worked up about game 60-something with the position they're in is just wasted energy.

What is your point, though? Should Reaves get top-6 minutes? Will his numbers translate accordingly?

My original point was the poster saying Reeves was a turnover machine.
Its simply not true.

Man, things get off-track quickly.
Textcritic says Reeves is a turnover machine.
You say his stats are 11 giveaways, 29 takeaways. Many Flames have far worse stats in those departments. Textcritic digs in and brings in more irrelevant considerations instead of conceding. Other posters come after you for saying Reeves is better than Johnny Gaudreau.
Crazy stuff.

What I get from that stat is that Reaves does not have the puck very often. He has one takeaway every two and a half games. Oh my..

Updated goalie records ...
Code:
Player # Last 5 Last 10 Last 15 Last 20
Smith 35 0.917 0.912 0.904 0.903
Rittich 39 0.908 0.893 0.898 0.898
I'm with most in that I'm much more comfortable watching Rittich than Smith, but Smith has him on all four recency comparisons.

What such "irrelevant considerations" did I bring into the discussion about Ryan Reeves?

Reeves is also playing against bottom pairings and fourth lines
I can't believe this is even a discussion...JG has more points this season than Reeves does in his career so there's that
