That's what I think might be the problem. It's not that Treliving isn't doing anything and expects Smith to rebound. I don't think teams are asking for something he's comfortable with giving up otherwise a trade would have been made by now. Even the third rounder for lower-tier backup with better stats option might not even be there.

This isn't NHL 19 where you can just keep offering prospects and picks until the computer says yes because you know you'll never have to worry about it because you'll never get that far anyway before you get NHL 20 and start over.

People think he should just overspend but that's easy to say when you're not him. He has to think about how what he's being asked to give up might affect the team's future vs the goalie he's getting. And bringing in a cheap option might not end up being any improvement in the end.

I think he wants to bring in someone he knows can take over should Rittich get hurt or starts to cool off rather than just trust that Rittich is going to stay hot the rest of the season.

When you have a team with a chance to do something special you suck it up and pay the price.

After reading 6 pages or so, I had to doublecheck that I had clicked the PGT and not the Mike Smith thread!

It’s really a shame to see Smitty struggle so much because I truly believe that his puck handling on dumpins diminishes the amount of bodychecks on our D.

I believe Burke mentionned a few weeks ago that it was about 30 less per game.

Hopefully he can teach this skill to BSD.

Its like last year with GG...everyone knew he was a bad coach, shouldn't have taken until the off season to give the guy the axe.
Fair enough, and it's not wrong to strive for perfection. In fact, Tre should be looking for more ways to improve the team.

I'm sure he knows Smith is an issue.

Burke also said in the same segment that Treliving was nuts for going with Valimaki and Andersson.

Burke always says that but I take it with a grain of salt. He played the majority of games last year. kept our D so fresh for the playoffs?

Flames D skate so well they rarely get hit anyway

Lol are you freaking kidding me?

The fans are part of the team and are owed a good product when they spend their hard earned money to watch this team. Lets see how long any of these guys last playing in front of an empty arena.

When you buy something from the store and it craps out on you.. do you also believe the manufacturer owes you nothing?

Smith has been playing like #### all year and its pathetic. I didn't watch the game in person but I watched it on TV. I pay for cable and deserve to watch an entertaining product. A loss is okay but not this way. I don't think I have ever disliked a player as much as Smith.

No stutter. A steady stream of over-the-top rhetoric is right on cue as usual.

Why would you say players are not accountable to the fans?

Default Poor goaltending does the team in .... AGAIN. Flames lose 6-4 to the Bruins.

When Bill Peters said “Smitty is his own worst critic”...he should check out this thread...

I am sure this approach is highly effective with your cable company. Are we seriously having this discussion?

Wait, I'm fine with players being accountable to fans, but let's not stretch the point. Would you get cable without the Flames? I suspect you would. And I'm sure there are plenty of unentertaining shows on your cable tv.

Because they aren't. They are accountable to their employers.

When I am paying to watch someone play a kids game they better be damn good at it. If you went to a concert and the singer sucked, guitarist was flubbing notes ect. wouldn't you be disappointed and feel ripped off?

I can't speak for anyone else but I have already passed on tickets when I know Smith is playing.

I was stuck at work tonight, so I didn't see the game. But judging by the highlights and all the comments in this thread, it sounds like Smith cost his team another 2 points.

I was a defender of Smith early in the season and like most of you I was hoping he'd rebound. But man, the guy is just done. Flames really need to find a way to part ways with him and find a new backup ASAP. This year's team has the potential to do some serious damage in the playoffs this year, and it would be a shame to have all that come crashing down due to piss poor goaltending.

Please heal quickly, Rittich. We need you!
