Personally I really like Peter Klein and think he needs a bigger role on the station.
I second this as well. He has very thoughtful opinions. You can tell he consciously watches sports & has the talent & ability to synthesize insight out of what he sees, reads, & hears.
I do not hear any of that in Will, Matt, or Logan.
Boomer lazily farts out insight like bowel movement based on his connections to the team & Rhett rests on his playing experience which seems to increasingly be less relevant as the game changes.
If it isn’t Peter hopefully they bring in Sarich or even Krahn.

I doubt they bring in another ex player as that person would basically have the same role as Rhett. They need a straight man. That's the role Pinder has been serving. Know your stuff, have opinions, and don't be afraid to be the butt of a joke.
That's the role they need to backfill.
Another ex player would make the show awkward.

Certainly do not need another advance stats guy on the radio either. Steinberg and Pinder and even Klein to a lesse extent are all there to put you to sleep with stats. They need a "from the guts" guy like Rhett. Not an ex hockey player per se, as Kerr was kind of that guy too. But in the end he just deffered to the numbers guys and let it be. Need some emotional throw back to the borg.
I don’t think that was Pinder’s strength. Dean & Rhett have that covered in spades.
The morning show had a nice blend of dude-bro humour (Boomer), candid jock insider (Rhett), and sports-nerd expertise (Pinder). Without Pinder, the morning show runs the risk of being all about eating too many hot dogs and getting drunk on fishing trips.

Yeah I agree, plus they’re probably too cheap to pay another player to work like Rhett. My only thought was it might be a feasible way to push Rhett to up his game.

Pinder wasn't your usual "straight man" in his role on the morning show. It was straight relatively speaking compared to how he fit best with the funny guy and the ex player. I actually think he's more of an antagonist and believe that will be a huge strength in his role with Pat. Pat is much more of a traditional "straight guy" and although him and Pinder tend to take a similar approach to their sports thought process, I think Pinder's break out strength will be that he likes to push buttons and take things off the rails a little bit which differs from Pat who sticks to the script.
Personally speaking, it's felt like the afternoon show has long been on a path of the traditional US sports talk radio show with lots of monotonous dry dialogue. I've found myself more and more enjoying the hockey podcast world where the details and content are important, but the dialogue is more natural. I think Pinder will help break the show out of the robotic feel and give it a bit more of a natural and engaging tone. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Pat is the most granola, "toe the company line", never say anything that could be offensive or be taken as attacking or overly critical of anyone. The guy was a brouwer apologist for almost the entire year last year.
He was a gulutzan apologist up until the day he was fired. At least pinder isn't afraid to have a strong take and not just fence sit.

Sounds like he did have a strong take. Just not one you agreed with.

He's got a good voice for radio and as a younger guy he's got potential to improve. The thing I would focus on if I was him was to start paying attention to all sports. The worst thing these guys can do is just focus on hockey because that makes them useless at times of the year when there's no hockey. If your job is sports radio you better ensure you are paying attention to football, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, MMA, etc. It's one of the things Mike Richards was good at as he wasn't just a hockey guy. Hockey guys are a dime a dozen in Canada so you need to separate yourself with insight on other sports.
Gotta say I sort of disagree with this. Not so much in the fact that he shouldn't get knowledgeable about other sports. That's fine. But the morning show and Fan 960 should focus on hockey. Not the Raptors, who honestly nobody gives a rats about unless they're in the playoffs. Coverage of the Blue Jays sometimes goes overboard and eats into hockey too, especially at the beginning of an exciting hockey season when you want to hear about the hosts thoughts on the new team early on. Instead we get what Cliff says a little too much. Too much 'funny guy' banter and not enough chatter about the Flames. Klein would help bring a bit more seriousness to the show but if he's off talking about Tennis, Badminton and Bowling I really don't give a care. I tune to the Fan 960 for NHL and the Flames. Not for sports nobody cares about or are not the (by far) largest sports entertainment team in the city.
If Klein wants to go get knowledgeable I'd say go nuts, just don't move the needle away from the focus of where it should be which is hockey, because we barely get enough of that as is in the mornings since Boomer and Rhett only show up to screw around.

this is bang on IMO. The afternoon show is boring as all hell unless Duhatschek is talking. Al Morgante (sp?) sounds uninformed on anything western conference. I actually wasn't a fan of Kerr's style but I do see why he appealed to people and could see why others were a fan- just wasn't my thing. I feel like he was a little too generous to his guests sometimes and wouldn't challenge them enough (sorta like Pat now). So yeah, Pinder should help with that and is a good fit. Also I imagine with the young family he welcomes the new hours probably.
Pat does play it a little too safe. He would be way harder on callers and their etiquette than on the team/coaches despite sucking arse and underperforming over Gulutzan's tenure for the most part particularly in front of the home fans.
And when he think he does have a 'strong' take on something he still manages to appease all sides on the matter.
That said he does great work in terms of team coverage and the every day things.
Just go out on a limb once or twice this year Patty. Step on some toes, damn it.

And Boomer's pillow monologue/advertisement is incredibly cringe worthy.
I think every AM radio station has someone voicing the exact same ad. I'd guess they're desperate for new revenue to offset a falling listening audience as more people switch over to podcasts, satellite radio and Spotify.

None of those services feature the sort of content the FAN provides.
People can lament the death of radio all they want, but nobody who advertises on the Fan ever seems to go out of business.
