Rather play Bennett there than sign the soft, lazy Vanek.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Bennett-Jankowski-Tkachuk
Frolik-Backlund-Foo
Klimchuk/Mangiapane-Ryan-Lazar

That lineup looks miles ahead of last years setup that GG was using.

As it stands, this would be my preferred fwd lineup... Tkachuk on the right, but on the second line:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Foo
Bennett-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Lazar-Backlund-Frolik
Mangiapane-Jankowski- Hathaway

Possibly Foo pushed down by FA acquisition, but generally speaking, this would be the lineup I’d like to see. Could be two really good scoring lines, a shutdown line and a skilled 4th line.

Yeah, how nice would it be if a guy like Foo came in and just TOOK the 1st line RW spot and ran with it? Something like that happening provides instant depth all the way down the line up with a domino effect.

..and if not him, maybe a UFA like Czarnik.

Ryan had 15 goals.... he will be a newly signed UFA.

1) He will not come to Calgary for a smaller role on a non-playoff team. There were no #4C in the league that scored 15 goals last season. Imagine the sales job that Peters and the Flames would make to get Ryan to sign. It would not include less ice time and a diminished role.

2) declaring interest in Ryan so clearly before hand pretty much assures that he will be expecting a deal with a cap hit in the 2 -2.5 M range.

3) There are 5 players in your line-up that scored more than Ryan. only 4 if you discount Jankowski's 4 goals in the year end garbage game.

You mean the game where Janko said, "screw it, I'm not playing the Gully system this game"?

Jankowski deserves some love, he saved us from losing Svechnikov to the Isles.

While that may be somewhat true, I think Vegas phoned it in that game and the Flames took advantage... personally, I don’t take those 4 goals too seriously when looking at Janko’s totals... consistent goal scoring over the course of a season is really more indicative. I’d be inclined to agree with Ricardo on kind of dismissing those goals given the circumstances.

Also, side note: now that Hamilton is gone Ricardo’s posting is much more tolerable, or is it just me?

Im also over the moon we got rid of hamilton. I will admit i appreciated his offense, but the eye test never passed with me on him if that makes sense. I really do believe with the departure of hamilton and the additions of lindholm and hanifin, we will be a much better team for not only next season but for years to come. "Sustained success". Unfortunately unless we acquire another top 6 scoring threat i dont think we make the playoffs.

I wonder if the Flames are in on that Minnesota option too ... a deal to get one of Coyle/Niedereter or Zucker if you take a year of Ennis as well.

Yep the report out there is one of Coyle, Niedereitter, or Zucker if you take Ennis' $4.6M cap hit too.

Waive Brouwer and/or trade Stone for whatever you can get

Don't like giving up Kylington (especially now that Fox is gone).

Shouldn't have to give up that much if we're taking on Ennis contract IMO.

I'll take the over that one. 25 goals, 55 points. A team is going to sign him to more than 2M.

Lol!?

Zucker had 33 goals last season, would have lead the Flames. 64 points, only Gaudreau had more than him on the Flames. He's 26.

Down year for Niederreiter, but still a pretty consistent "25 goal" guy.

Ennis' 3.7M, one year left contract is not enough to get either of those guys for Kylington and Mangipane.

It's the equivalent of other team fans saying let's take on Brouwer (far far worse contract) and get Monahan for a second round pick.

Way to get people's hopes up there Bingo

FYI - the talk on Sportsnet 650 was that Arizona/Minnesota were close on a deal that would have seen Domi for Zucker/Ennis. So our Domi would be Bennett. That probably changes the view on any potential deal - can get a top 6 at a discount, but not for pennies on the dollar.

Take into consideration that Zucker is UFA after a year and he may not have an appetite to sign long term with us unless we buy UFA years at a premium.

Here's the link from the Score on a potential deal - Minnesota is not giving them away for nothing

The reported transaction would've seen the Coyotes acquire forwards Jason Zucker and Nino Niederreiter in exchange for Domi and, potentially, center Christian Dvorak.

Russo added that the Coyotes likely would've also taken on expensive forward Tyler Ennis, who carries a $4.6-million cap hit for one more season, according to CapFriendly.

It would've been a major cap-clearing move by new Wild general manager Paul Fenton.
