I get the sheltered part but the education just seems wrong. From what I've seen the curriculum is the same but with smaller classes and more personal time.
Most importantly the ability to fire bad teachers, and kick out problem kids. That's a gigantic advantage.
I'm too cheap to pay for private school but I know people that use them. They said that several kindergarten students were told they weren't going to be accepted into grade 1. Dropping the 5-10% most troublesome students must do wonders for class structure while the public school gets stuck with more and more each year.

Ha, this was my kid. Went to private school in grade one. He has some focus problems. Smart kid, but gets distracted. The school wasn't going to advance him to grade 2 because they don't deal with that sort of thing, so we moved him to public. He was ahead of all of the other kids, especially math. The teacher said, he's an awesome kid. He gets distracted but I'm not worried about him because he already knows this stuff. So, public school was a bit of a disappointment.

God that sounds like me haha. "He doesn't pay attention but he seems to know the answers when I ask so I'm just going to ignore him"
Can't blame the teachers though, they have their hands full trying to bring the bottom of the class up. Top of the class don't get as much attention.

So why is public school a bit of a disappointment?
You were hoping they would kick him out like the private school?

Private school says they are not in a position to help him as they don't have the resources.
Public school says he's fine and above the curve.

My sister/bil just moved their kids into a private school. $$$ cost but they think the public system in their area of Calgary is pretty much in shambles.

I'm a former public school teacher so I support it, and send my kids there (though in Springbank the classes are small and the schools have lots of outside funding and amenities). The people I know who don't do it largely send their kids to private for special attention (Calgary Academy) or other special reasons (like the Edge school). The Calgary Academy kids actually seem to get a lot of life experiences over and above public school. I consider the Edge school to be a bit a vanity exercise, but that's just me.

Signs with the Flames for a bargain out of nowhere, trolling the "six" teams. Because #### every other NHL team. Especially the lame fart pageant that is Toronto.

Wait... are you insinuating that a non-lame fart pageant exists somewhere?

What happens in NYI if Tavares signs elsewhere? They will be left with eight forwards, four defensemen, a goalie, and nearly $33 m of cap space.
In retrospect, if TB signs Tavares and needs to clear cap space, NYI is a almost certainly a player.

I believe the direction of the team will be highly dependent on Tavares. If he signs, they stay course and try to build a contender.
If they fail to do so though, they have to realize that they aren't in the position to give up any type of assets while the rebuilding process is going on. They still have to sign/re-sign a starting goalie, Pulock and Nelson and another 5 or 6 bodies, so it's not like they would be under the cap floor - but will have a ton that could be spent on UFAs like JVR.
So unless it's taking on Callahan's contract to make room for Tampa (and getting something of value for it), I don't see them being in on the likes of, for example, Johnson and giving up assets to get them.

Mabye this has been posted earlier, but TSN put together a calculator to show what Tavares would earn based on where he goes. That tax break explains why Dallas is a contender. Makes you realize how high the taxes are in some markets

Over 7 year life of contract (10M per), 12M more after tax in Dallas than TO
Toronto would have to offer 13.5M per to take home the same as 10M per in Dallas

These tax rates are insane. More than 50% should never happen.

Arthur Staple of The Athletic says Sharks and Leafs are #1 and #2 on Tavares' list if he decides to leave the Islanders.

Sharks have been my gut feeling for him all season.
Good team that's always competitive, pretty good fanbase, good management group & ownership, plus you get to live in a warm climate and don't have to worry about being hounded in public.
Honestly if I was a free agent right now I'd probably have San Jose very high on my list too.

You technically are a free agent right now. Not sure if the Sharks are interested though.

####...you're right. I should probably send them some film - I'm sure I could score a goal and maybe get an assist on a line with JT and Pavelski.
