No way a pro like Jagr is going to the coach with lineup suggestions after one game and one practice. A game in which Lazar didn't play. He's too busy getting into game shape and getting to know the guys.

As others have said, the line changes Gluegun made is what changed the game.
We all know Mony and Johnny have the chemistry together, and they put up a lot of points over the last few seasons there's no denying it. However I feel most of those points come from deep zone cycling and Johnny making magic happen for the quick slot pass to Mony in the front of the net. I think he excels at that net front presence and clearly needs to continue.
However last year there were a few games, pre-season this year and then last night proves that Bennett and Johnny have a completely different chemistry that I feel is a lot more noticeable and effective on zone takes and rushes. They both have some speed, they move fluently up the ice and are very good at dangling out defenders to get open and clearly both have knacks for finding each other at good times. Lazar's speed and big body helped that tonight it was refreshing to see a line have complete puck control while taking the zone.
Again as others pointed out, I would hate to see that line broken up after 1 game so I propose:
JG - SB - CL
KV - SM - JJ - Would even be cool to see Tkachuk slot in on the LW here for a few reps if its not going to well.

Alright, ill let you be right this time Props to the coaches for trying something new, good to see some speed on that line! Top a bit too predictable and this adds a new wrinkle.

On another note, I have never watched Smith's game too closely; last night I have. He seems to be playing a VERY active style of goaltending. Getting out of the crease a lot, deflecting pucks wildly, passing to blue line. Not trying to criticize, especially after the big win; just worry that it could be unjustifyably risky and leading to errors for such a big goalie.

On the whole, it is beneficial as he'll create more offense than any goals he allows. Some times goalies need to feel like they're doing something in order to stay in the zone otherwise they get bored and rusty. Smith seems to be the type who is figity in net. With his puckhandling skills, that's perfectly alright.

I think having Jagr with Monahan would be perfect as well because of the fact Monahan is not the fleetest of foot and has quite a few similarities with Alex Barkov, who Jagr played with the past few seasons. What I think would work best, would be having Versteeg on that line also as he too isn't quick but all three are very cerebral. Think of it like emulating the Sedins where it's all puck control all the time as they attempt to pierce the defense.
Gaudreau with Bennett and Ferland works as does the 3M line. I don't now what they do with Lazar. The Flames right now have too many good players. That's why it was a good decision to send Janko to Stockton, despite him easily being able to be a top 9 forward right now.

My friend, as painful as it will be. Monday night you do something else! We need this game so badly! A win that night will be credited to you, your sacrifice will be remembered!

It'll burn him a few times, no question. I feel it's worth it overall

Watched the game on the pvr late after a night out, so only recall a few things...
Nice to see the team battle back and score 5 unanswered.
Lazar was really noticeable. Great to see.

Why he got an extension is a great question. Doesn't look like a great fit there. Mason gets a lot of flak, but that defense is just putrid.

Seems to me like the GM should be gone as well for not be willing to actually build a better team around the amazing core they have.

That’s how he’s always been. Creates a lot of puck movement and tries to negate offensive pressure against and “intimidate” the opposition as much as possible. It’s not mistake-free hockey, but it’s a huge reason he has a career at this point.
3 goals per game is obvious not where he wants to be but considering the majority of games in the NHL so far have seen 5+ goals, it doesn’t seem too far outside the norm. Lots of offence so far!

He's at 2.5 goals against per game. The 3rd goal in the Edmonton game was an empty net.

Smith has allowed 5 goals in 2 games and has easily been the teams mvp over 2 games. .930 save %

Rewatching the game now.
What was with the linesman power-tripping on the faceoff after the Laine goal?
Stajan gets kicked out, so Brouwer comes in. Then the Jet jumps early and falls, and doesn't get kicked out. Brouwer is visibly asking the linesman why not and he throws the puck down angrily for an easy faceoff win for the Jet while Brouwer is still talking to him.
