I don't really care enough after this game to bash Monahan or Brodie or Gaudreau. They'll be fine even if they weren't doing well this game. Bartkowski on the other hand is terrible and will never be anything more than terrible. Get Kulak playing, get Andersson up here, do anything, just get Bartkowski off the ice.

There's a play, hard to notice on tv, that stymies the Flames so that all they do is slap it around the boards. You'll see a Flames defencemen standing behind the net with the puck. He partner is standing in the corner. What the opponents do is press three guys down low taking away the d pass and the pass to a forward who has come back to help.

So the play is to slap it around the boards and the winger chips it at the boards near centre. GG needs to figure out a better way to break that press or do the same to the opposition because it just turns into one long turnover.

Another thing is CGY never makes short passes from d to centre and up through the middle, nor do you see a Brodie or Hamilton skate the puck up and create that extra layer that allows a zone entry. Instead the usually go d to d and then fire it up to guys standing still and they just chip it. Failing that it's just rim it off the glass.

Zone exits and zone entries suck right now. It needs to be short passes hitting guys in stride and getting through the neutral zone with speed and possession.

That crap tonight was god awful to watch.

Smith was great tonight. The offense will come around and we have Jagr’s mullet coming into effect. The offense will start to gel. Shake up the lines a bit and results will follow. One bad game, 81 to go. Stay positive!

Such BS. GG had this team playing lights out for the entire second half the year last season once they got the system. The team has one bad game where they lose 2-0 in their biggest rivals home opener and it is time to throw the coach under the bus. If the Flames win their next 5 you will be saying he is the best coach in the NHL and should win the Jack Adams. Curb the hyperbole.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Jankowski - Jagr

Rotate Ferland in the top nine as necessary.

I would love it if someone could explain what happened to him. After the new contract he hasn't been the same. He used to do something that would wow you as a fan once or twice a game. Now its a glimmer once ever 10 games for 1 shift.

With Brouwer being on the ice aside, just give up and don't try then?
Cool story 👍🏻

Bs ive disliked GG from day 1.He has no balls to make the right decision or maybe he is not that bright. His coaching in the playoffs was terrible. You must like his use of Brouwer?Bennett also? His system?

I don't think this is a very accurate assessment. He wasn't dominant tonight in any way, but he sure made some really good plays.

That's one way to look at it but we lost to the oilers on a poor effort. Some saw this coming in preseason when the team seem to lack focus and intensity.

They never head man the puck with this system. This notion they skate as a 5 player unit is not true. Way more icings than Hartley's system.

Okay great, but you're also saying we're going for it now, while Bennett and Jankowski aren't able to serve us because you won't let them see the light of a top six role while bringing them along properly.

Meanwhile other teams make the decision to move centres to wing all the time. Trust me, I get the reasoning, but you have to have the flexibility when you have a possible four top six centres just kind of sitting there at the same time as you scratch your head trying to fill top six wing positions.

It's utterly frustrating to watch.
This.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Versteeg-Jankowski-Jagr
Glass-Stajan-Ferland

Don't understand why it's so hard for Gulutzan.

I thought it reflected poorly on Gulutzan that he made no effort to juggle the lines. The only thing he juggled was the defence pairings, but that doesn't feel very accurate when the team cant get the offense going.

With Smith in net the Flames will have a good season. That's my take from the game.
