Definitely complicated considering we may already be giving up a 2nd for Smith. One of the 2nd rounders must push back a year if we make the playoffs and need to give Arizona a 2nd.

Great trade. Our window is now. Chances second round picks develop into NHL players is minimal. Tre gets two thumbs up from me.

We don't have Brent Sutter as our coach though. That is already a step up from last time.

Travis Hamonic... $500k more than Engelland basically means we have all of Wideman salary available still..

Price was a little steep, but good acquisition. System takes a possible hit with the lack of picks. Tre will have to do some work on that end.

If tree can re-up Stone, I'd consider the Flames d second in the west only to the Preds.

Celebrated Square Root Day

People really need to understand the value of his contract in a cap world, it gives us a legit top four core without killing the cap, that is valuable beyond words. Think about this
Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Hamonic
prospect - prospect
costs us about $22mil in cap. That is seriously awesome. Top 5 D core in the league and we won't be disproportionately paying our D core towards the cap. That is insane.

This makes me think Stone was asking above his pay grade. So far Brad has gotten a #1 goalie and a top 4 D man checked off his list, before free agency as well, I prefer it that way versus paying those trumped up prices.
Now we just need someone to play on the top line whether they think that will come from within or without we definitely need to secure a winger.

That team never had forwards like Gaudreau, Monahan, Frolik, Tkachuk, Backlund and Bennett

For people comparing this to the Dougie deal, that was highway robbery, this is still below market value. It's a great move. Don't compare it to that deal.

I have to say I'm with the sceptical crowd here. I'm not convinced Hamonic is that good, or that we needed an upgrade on defense this badly. High picks are just so important in the cap world.
Well, it's happening so we'll just have to hope it works out.

So...Treliving thought the Flames could still make a splash at the draft despite not having a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
Then he still picks at 16 and makes a splash.

I'd have to see how Brodie and Hamonic jive, but we should be neck and neck with Anaheim.
