So they're paying half of Iggy's salary to make another team better and themselves worse so they can draft higher.
That....that is grim.

If the Flames miss the playoffs now they will have themselves to blame not Iggy
if they can't go a game or two above .500 the rest of the way they don't really deserve it anyway

LA needs him to be a scorer and rumored to play him with Kopitar. In Calgary he would be fringe role player. Pretty easy decision for Iginla. To me it screams desperation for LA.

A 39 year old, washed up, end of career Iginla is still better than Brouwer and Chiasson and I fully expect him to score more points from now until the end of the season than both of them.
|
No, Chiasson and Brouwer are clearly better than Iginla now. Sad, but true.

Maybe he didn't want the extra playoff grind and would rather hang out in LA for a couple months, then go home.

Brouwer maybe, but Chiasson is not. Iginla still commands his opponents attention.

No matter what anyone thinks of this trade, you've got to give credit where credit is due. The whole LA Kings organization is doing it right, top to bottom. Getting Bishop and Iginla at the time when their playoff chances are shaky, at best, is sending a very strong emotional message to the players - we believe in you and we think you can get there and you can win it. I wouldn't be too surprised if they do make playoffs again this year.

Good for Iggy. If anyone can get him going -- even at 39 -- it's Darryl.
If this plays out perfectly, Iggy and Bishop carry the Kings into the playoffs, knocking out Edmonton as the last wildcard. Both proceed to leave as UFA's at the end of the year.
C'mon hockey gods -- make it happen!

They're 30th overall by 14 points. I think their draft position is safe.
This wasn't a move to make the Avs worse. This was a move to give Iginla significantly better odds of making one final playoff run (even if those odds still aren't great).
If they don't make this move, they're paying 100% of his salary. It's not like teams were lining up to take him.

Well they are gonna be terrible soon so I guess they might as well "go for it"
I don't think either move accomplished much
Budaj out Bishop in
King out Iggy in

There was a heavy degree of cynicism in that post. I disagreed with Iggy's choice to sign in Colorado from Day 1. He took the paycheque and now they're trying to foist it off onto someone else.
Theres no dignity to be found here, now hes just bouncing from team to team.
Its a sad end for a great player.

I think LA will overtake St Louis, so Iggy will have a chance.
And LA is one of those teams will an ability to catch lightning in a bottle after game 82...as long as they don't run into the Sharks.

Especially with the return of Quick. Their moves have actually been a bit... head scratching. Granted adding Iginla for basically free on a team struggling offensively really has few downsides. He could come in and light a fire under Kopitar, in which case big win. Or he could come in and struggle to score along with the rest of the team, in which case... meh?

It's quite possible that if the choice was L.A with Sutter, or Calgary, that Iginla probably picked L.A.

Given the return for Iginla I am quite convinced that they are the only team who made an offer.
