I've been critical this year of Chaisson but he had a really good game last night. The one before was good too. If he plays that way he will be effective. Nice to see him using his body more.

Which is why we need to keep Gaudreau on line 3 and have the offence spread out. One of those lines is always bound to get very favourable matchups.
Upcoming opponents are going to have a ball dealing with all three trios firing, now that Versteeg and Monahan are a thing.

Hilarious that Vermette doesn't get called for a hook.

Seriously, what's the point of two refs? That was such an awful game for the refs.

Well.... I'm almost 40, so is that "younger"? :P I much prefer video game music over the lame Dutch 90s synthesizer crap they used to play, but I'd take some old-school rock for sure, and Katie Perry's music can become a thing of the past as far as I'm concerned. I actually heard TOOL at a Flames game once, that was pretty sweet. And they play The Cult sometimes, and of course there's Johnny Cash I think I have also heard evil Metallica but that is terrible--I wish they would play pre-black-album Metallica tho!

Exactly! People criticize Bennett for that hooking/holding penalty he took but how can you know what is a penalty when the refs won't call something as blatant as that hook on Johnny by Vermette.
Gaudreau also continued to get whacked in the hands in that game. If the refs were told to crack down on it and be aware of it... they obviously ignored the memo. I can't stand how it feels like refs in this league have such an ego about being called out on not doing their job.
At this rate Johnny will never get the calls he deserves. People try to say he embellishes but it's a simple fact that he makes guys look foolish so they hook, grab, and slash... the refs just don't call it cause it would mean he would draw a penalty almost every shift. I say... so be it! Call the game by the rules.

Makes you think that they've gotta both be sticking to the same predetermined agenda given that neither calls stuff like that.
You think ONE would think yes, that's an infraction, at one of those Johnny instances, regardless of the score.
Its becoming more and more obvious that certain conditions must be met in order for infractions to be infractions (is that team behind on the scoreboard? Is there a make up call in line based on the last few calls? Is that player named Gaudreau, etc, etc.)

Johnny threw up his hands at the ref again. I get he's frustrated, but actions like that don't curry any favour with officials.

That's true. If there was less of a reaction from him directed at officials after each questionable play then it would seem less like he was begging for it. They tend not to award calls to players that act like that.

It was glossed over in the GT, but he also went down real easy on a play the crowd called a penalty for...... I believe that was earlier in the game.

A little less acting would help his case for sure. Regardless, some of those hooks, slashed and trips are 100% infractions. So it sucks.

One of his fingers was broken because the referees aren't doing their jobs. I can hardly fault him for being frustrated.

Who cares if he throws up his hands at the ref? It shouldn't bloody matter. If it's a clear dive and the player's head snaps back, he falls like superman or pretends he got high sticked then yeah, I can understand the refs not caring.
If he's literally slashed and throws his hands up at the ref, it should still have absolutely no bearing on whether a call is made or not. The infraction still occurred. It didn't get called. That's an issue.
If a ref's call is influenced on whether or not a player reacts towards them after they are infracted upon, I mean what more proof do you need that there is some sort of mandate to call penalties at certain times? They see an infraction occur, yet because the player throws his hands up at them they suddenly don't call it?
Sorry but that's some BS going on. I agree that Gaudreau probably shouldn't react everytime. But at the same time, him doing so should have absolutely ZERO effect on whether the original infraction is still called.

I think that Johnny goes down easily sometimes becuase he's 160 pounds, being hit or bumped or pushed by 200 pound guys. Not because he dives, especially when he still has the puck.

Refs are human too. Even the best refs can't remove all emotion from the game, and if a player is pissing him off (i.e.: whining for calls all the time) he consciously or subconsciously might become biased against the player.
Having said that, I think it's worth while for coaches to call the refs over to the bench between periods to have a chat and or recap of calls the coach disagrees with. I think this plants some doubt in the refs mind about calls he's making if the coach sends a message the right way (i.e.: not pissing him off)

I think one of the reasons it wasn't called is because the flames were up by 5 goals already. It goes back to the whole concept of refs managing games rather than officiating games.

Chiasson has been good all season long.
Some posters just aren't able to judge a player past his goal/assist total.
