Dunno if anyone will want Wideman after this contract is up. Might have to call it a career or go to Europe. The reads and reactions are just far too slow at this point, and this game is more a young man's game than ever before.

This isn't about being young, this is about being stupid. Wideman might have the lowest defensive IQ I have ever seen in a defenseman, and I've seen some pretty good candidates for that title in my years as a Flames fan.

I'd put money on this being his last year. No one will offer a contract at his age and his slow mobility which won't get any better in another year and you also have that baggage.

Yeah, barring a complete 180, unfortunately I think Wideman is done after this season. He should be a healthy scratch more often than not going forward, and our bottom pairing isn't even exactly overflowing with talent. He hasn't even been pushed out of the lineup by someone coming up, he's just played himself out of the lineup by being awful

This is what I've got too. Some are just slow (Grossman), some can't skate without falling over (Pardy), some are just overall inept (Eriksson)...but few seem as brain dead as Wideman. He was shaky at defence even during his best year as a Flame and was lucky that Russell basically blocked every shot possible while they were in their own end.

This. As much as we liked to rag on Russell when he was playing like bunk for us, he made Wideman's defensive frailties positively cope-able with.
