One of you guys could have stayed home while the other parent took the kid. To be honest, I think you kind of jumped the gun on taking a one year old out trick or treating, anyway, although I totally give you a pass on that as it's an exciting night and fun to get out there and be a part of it.

I'm with you on the someone being home to give out candy as its one of the few selfless holidays we have.
But you absolutely should go trick or treating with babies I mean it's likely been 15 years since you were able to go. As an adult I still love going trick or treating and the free candy. Having kids makes it so you aren't creepy.

I ran out of candy at 300 kids.
First year in this house, crazy numbers.

None. Our community sucks for trick or treating, hardly any houses decorated or anyone going around. We went down to Cranston to go with my sister and her kid, it was much better.
It was my little guy's first 'real' Halloween (19 months old) and he had a blast. About 4 or 5 houses in he had a handle on the whole idea and was booking it up people's driveways, learned to take the candy and put it in his bag, and loved looking at people's decorations. We even got him dancing a couple times to what was supposed to be scary music. Definitely a success.

It's not like they're paying for swimming, anyway. Their parents do. And as a parent, if my kid got a free swimming coupon I'd be annoyed. Now they want me to take them swimming and we're super busy as is and I don't really want to flap around in some nasty cesspool anyway.
Of all the coupons you gave out, a very low percentage of them will be used, and of the ones that aren't used, 100% of those kids will be disappointed while the parents feel guilty.
Wish people would just stick to candy/toys (like the glowsticks).

Yes, how devastating to get a coupon instead of your 29th mini box of Smarties
Also funny coming from the guy who thinks the West Edmonton Mall pool is the coolest place on earth

I hate Smarties now. I ate some last Halloween and they tasted like soap.

Are you joking around with me? The west Edmonton mall pool is way better than any pool in Calgary by a long shot; however, I'm pretty sure I've never said it's the coolest place on earth. Just a good place to go for a weekend trip in a cold February or whatever. Then hit the roller coaster. It's awesome there and a huge embarrassment to Calgary that we don't have something comparable.

A few years ago they switched to natural dyes that have weird taste, but don't give you cancer.

Smarties have always been terrible. More coating than chocolate. M&Ms for the win.

Strange as a kid I preferred Smarties but now as an adult I find Smarties kind of gross and M&M's far superior.

I wish people would stop complaining about the free things given to their kids. We gave some of these out too and heard nothing but excitement and positive comments. It's also a bonus for kids with any one of the plethora of food allergies who probably can't eat 75% of what they bring home anyway.

Free swimming coupons!!! What an awesome idea.
Imagine a Halloween where the kids get half as much candy(still more than ever needed) and a load more of passes and coupons to a science centre, movie, zoo, amazon credit for a kids book, Hitmen or Roughneck tix, blah blah blah.
Come on its not like giving socks at Xmas.

Despite UCBs objections, I also dislike candy that is toxic/carcinogenic.

Yeah, my daughter was thrilled to get a free swimming coupon, the kids love going to the pool. Since she still has Halloween candy left over from last year getting something else once in a while isn't a disappointment.

I had about 30 kids in Tuscany.
I was playing Netflix on my TV screen and some kids wouldn't leave, one toddler even came into the house so he could watch TV LOL His parents had to grab him away...that was adorable though. I guess some households don't have TVs anymore?

My wife was gonna be a Halloween Grinch this year...
1 box of potato chips...45 portions...when they are gone its lights out and curtains closed...
I get a text at 5:45 coming home from work...
"We are almost out of chips...can you stop and get something else...anything else..."
We had close to 90 kids when it was all done...
And I have a box and a half of mini chocolate bars left over.
Plus my youngest decided to go out with friend and came home with even more.
I may be set for next year.
