Blame officiating all you guys want but we let in 7 goals... we were bad, but we'll be better Friday. I was really hoping we could start the season 3-0 against the Oilers/Canucks.

Why not take out Wideman who is small and slow?
It's honestly very confusing how Grossman is even on the team let alone drawing in ahead of Jokipakka and Kulak.

He played for Gulutzan in Dallas, so is it maybe just nepotism?

I don't understand.

The D pairings didn't cause the refs to be terrible.
The D pairings didn't cause Elliot to be terrible.

Flames had a tough first period with a couple bad mistakes by Grossman and a terrible line change.

In the 2nd the Flames took over until the refs decided to call everything on Calgary while letting everything go for the Oilers.

Flames still said "#### you" to the refs and tied it up anyways with two beautiful shorties only to have Elliot let all the air out of the party balloon with an awful goal to McDavid on a lucky bounce off the boards.

Then the refs let Gaudreau get mauled at one end and then call that absurd penalty shot for McDavid.

Still the Flames were the better team for the rest of the game after that garbage.

It wasn't perfect, but I don't see how we can hang this loss on the D pairings.
Absolutely all of that contributed to the 7-4 beating including Gulutzan's moronic D pairings. Gulutzan looked lost on the bench he was clearly out coached.
Guess we will see what else he messes with in the Flames game opener or does he fix it by puting...
Gio with Brodie
Hamilton with Wideman
Engelland with Jokipakka
Versteeg should not be on the first line.
Anyone would be a liar if they thought Treliving would sign a career 30yr old 3rd 4th line player on a PTO and think our HC would say eff it let's make him part of our most important attack alongside 13m worth of talent.

I know it's one game and I'm trying to battle the voices in my head that are telling me we are going to feel the same way about Gulutzan that Oilers fans felt about wunderkid Dallas Eakins. I am so afraid that he will be the type of coach to go against conventional wisdom on everything. Where the hell was Backlund and Frolik vs the McDavid line?

That's what I was wondering as well. He kept trying to match Monahan against McDavid.

I hope he doesn't think Monahan is better defensively than Backlund. You play Backlund and Frolik against other teams first lines and let Gaudreau and Monahan play against their second or third line.

Even with the first change there is no way you start the game with Monahan and Gaudreau.

Just got home from the game. I'm sure it's been said, but Grossman was terrible tonight. Really question why he was playing instead of Jokipakka.

Elliott reminded me of his days in Ottawa. Terrible positioning, very deep in his net.

I was expecting more from Bennett. He looked more like the rookie than Tkachuk did.

Officiating was bad, but with 2 SHG can't really blame that.

Thought Versteeg looked alright in his first game.

Very sloppy game Elliot better snap out of it or they finish last in goals against again. Loved Tkachuk game was in their face all night. He will be hated in this league. Positives PP and PK 5/5 needs serious work They need someone also to retrieve pucks for Mono and Johnny . Versteeg not quick enough.

I know Grossman turned the puck over on the 2nd goal but he made a good play to get into scoring position and really someone should have been covering. Johnny makes that play 5 times a game and turns the puck over and people want to give him $8.5 million. More bad luck than a bad play from Grossman.

Just and ugly game, Flames never settled down. But there was some good but unfortunately it didn't come from our top players. Losing sucks but it is just one game. Time to get to work.

Talking about 81 games from now after the first game of the season.

We have not.

We've started slow for a decade and have won nothing.

Plus they lost to a good team. We lost to the @&$#ing Oilers.
Amazing this has to be said.

One game. Let's move on and see how both teams handle the next game. My only regret is the Oilers fans are going to be quite annoying for the first period.

Elliott was terrible.
Officiating was terrible.
Team needs to play better overall. I think they will want to bring it on Friday.
