Yes, I think the Jets would quite like to have Frolik back indeed.

If they weren't run on a shoestring budget, yes.

Absolutely they would. Especially at his cap hit. 200ft point producers don't grow on trees and a bunch of young skilled players does not a championship team make. You need vets to show kids how to play the game.

Treliving already made the mistake of giving Bouma a juicy contract after he had a career season playing with Backlund, doesn't seem like he wants to make the same mistake with Colborne.

All season long, nobody aside from Gaudreau propped up his teammates more than Backlund either.
People look far too much into small, useless details when theneye test will suffice.

Hey just a reminder that hurling insults, snide remarks at people with whom you disagree, even with whom you vehemently disagree, doesn't make you seem clever or cool...it makes you look like a jacka** and brings down the conversation others are having.
There seems to be more than the usual nastiness around here lately. Kinda sad.
Wit is better. Try harder, snidesters!

Schneider is likely the only one of these that will not count again this season.
So 40

No.
Andersson, Kylington and Schneider do not count against the contract limit unless they play 11 NHL games which is unlikely for all of them.
There are 35 contracts currently counting against the limit. Plus they have given 4 qualifying offers which are not contracts.

He still might. He could get signed to an AHL-only deal.
Aaron Johnson was the Heat's captain last season and he was on an AHL-only contract.

I know, but since he wasn't listed as oneof the guys the Flames are still talking to I now have my doubts.

Based on Treliving's interview on the Fan this afternoon, these moves were made to free up developmental spots for prospects to play. I'd say it's doubtful that the AHL guys return.

Ya, mentioning Frolik when the topic isn't about him is nuts.

Colborne is not overrated, he is simply a high risk high reward player. Also, Colborne is likely to get rewarded for a career year, which is fine. At this point player's value is determined by what he can bring to the team divided by the player's cap hit. At this point the production of Colborne seems good, but at the same time I remember many plays that died on his stick. I personally don't get my hopes up for the Flames to tie a game or get ahead when Colborne is on the ice. In fact, I expected the Flames to lose momentum during a game when Colborne was on the ice. Moreover, too much of this season this team seemed like a one line team.
Don't get me wrong, Colborne is a decent player! I just think that if he earns a $3M+ contract, he needs to be a momentum changer for the Flames consistently. Otherwise, it is likely money better spent elsewhere.

Once that "process" ends, Treliving doesn't screw around. All the best to those not qualified, but I really like the boldness of the move in terms of saying, this is the NHL. Its up or out.

Read through pages and this is the post.
Folks gone are the days where you overpay for anyone but a core player. The rest is replaceable.
People need to remove the emotional element. Career years before contract renewal is a warning sign for bottom 6 guys. Think Bouma - I bet Brad has nightmares about that.
Put the dough on core guys like Johnny, Monahan, Gio, Brodie, Hamilton, Bennett, etc. Rotate out the rest as contracts expire. Simple business model.
Colborne I like him but he's not a core guy.

I feel like the Flames have invested a lot in the growth of Colborne and have given him room and assignments to really become an NHLer.
His ultimate position with the club is going to be a 3rd line winger, I believe, because he can score and battle down low but hasn't been able to drive possession enough to be in the top 6. Assuming they have a third line salary cap of about 2.5 per player, I think they have a that offer on the table for Colborne. A little weak based on last seasons point totals, but a great place for him to thrive as a part of something bigger.
In the end Colborne will only sign here if he's happy to give the team the discount. His internal value against our cap structure and his free market value are at least 1.5 Million apart right now.
