I really don't see any of the top 3 picks being traded.
Leafs get their franchise forward, Jets can only be a good team by building through the draft, and Jarmo doesn't pass on a Finn.

It'll take more than that.
I would go as far as:
6 + Stars 1st + one of Mangiapane or Andersson.
If the Stars 1st ends up a 2nd, use our 2nd and dangle Mangiapane.

I see a trade down if nothing but defence left available.

Nah, Jarmo is rumoured to want both Finns.

Basically every team that wins the cup has a top-3 pick. No it doesn't guarantee anything but it's the only way to be a legit contender.

Treliving has mentioned they have a shelf at 3 and another after 6. I don't think it's very likely they will be trading down. They are going to get one of their top 6

You have to ask yourself why the other team would want to make that deal.
Why do the Jets want to trade #2? What's in it for them? They already have some great prospects, they don't need the depth. A player like Laine could be massive for them. Why would they trade down for lesser players?

As I posted in the GDT, gotta look on the bright side! No Oilers and Canucks in Top 3. Also lots of optiions for this pick either keeping, trading up or down.
I'd also argue as I have before what we need more than franchise forwards or defence what we need is stronger support for the great young core of Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Brodie, Dougie that we already have and are developing.
Quote:
Try to look at the bright side of whatever pick.
8th means Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto fell out of the top 3.
7th means at least one of Vancouver or Edmonton out of the top 3, maybe both.
6th means we only dropped a spot and get a decent draft position. Might be an attractive slot to trade down a few to get another asset and a player we want.
5th means we can land one of Dubios or Tkachuk (probably the best consolation prizes).
4th means something is broken, or they kicked the Oilers out of the league.
3rd - Puljujarvi, great all round player
2nd - Laine, dynamic sniper. Ovechkin like.
1st - Franchise Centre, insanely good Centre depth going forward.

I don't think there's any way we could trade into the top 3 without giving up Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau or Brodie. Those top 3 are NHL ready studs. Everyone else is a few years away and no certainty. You're gonna have to give up an NHL ready elite young guy to get one of them.

What if we overpay?
We need another winger, and they aren't easily attainable. Laine would also be huge for us. The Jets could make a trade with us, and we could give them some pretty good value.

Not bad, was expecting much much worse. Good chance Tkachuk or Dubois falls to 6

The only way I could see the Jets trading #2 would be if they had some irrational obsession with getting Tkachuk because his dad once played for the Jets.
That seems about as likely as the Flames being obsessed with getting Nylander because his dad was a Flame.

#Flames GM Brad Treliving: "We're confident — we're really confident — that we're going to get a good player at No. 6."
Doesn't look like they're going to be moving down, although things can change.

If Dubois + Tkachuk are gone, I think the Flames are probably willing to trade down depending on what's available. I don't see a huge difference between Nylander, Brown, Jost, Chychrun, Juolevi, Sergachev, Bean, McLeod, or Rubtsov.
The Flames having the top pick of the next tier could be an interesting thing.
Teams with multi picks of note
Arizona - 7th, 22nd (Could be possible if they really want someone and the Flames have Dallas' pick)
Carolina - 13th, 23rd
Boston - 14th, 20th
