Why do so many people think attitude is a problem, some very good NHL players thrived on having a bad attitude. Bobby Clark was one of them, Theoren Fleury, Mark Messier, they all thrived on winning but played with an edge. If anything the Flames don't have enough players that people hate to play against. We are not in this to build a toy truck we are in this to build a mean machine!

Meh. Not really a fan of either player. I feel like the most likely scenario here is that they both have Boyd-like careers. Hope I'm wrong obviously, as there is a huge opportunity for Shinkaruk as a 2LW here, I hope he seizes it.

Not sure where Granlund fits in long term in Vancouver. Sedin, Horvat and McCann all down the middle. From the perspective of filling an organizational need, the Flames win on that ground alone.

There's a difference between on ice and off ice.

I think most Shinkaruk concerns are about off ice issues. No idea how true it is, but it's something that's followed him for a while now.

I liked Horak. Still surprised he never got a sniff in Edmonton. Or didn't want to be sniffed in Edmonton. Still unsure what happened there.

Different players, but an idea where Granlund stacks

I think this trade has a bit of management helping out a player get playing time elsewhere. Granlund wasn't in the plans and a few players are starting to come up that may be a better fit in the bottom six (Jankowski, Arnold, Grant). Good asset management.

Nah, the best comparison for Granlund is Dustin Boyd.

I love coming on CP after a long day at work and seeing a big trade for the Flames! Going to miss you, Granny. Canucks fans will like him. Works hard, has some great hands and a hard, heavy shot.

Just doesn't use those skills often enough.

Francis with his... take on the situation:

Quote:
Shinkaruk has big upside but #Flames got rid of a proven NHL centre who also has bright future. Shocking as Flames passed on HS for Poirier

Weird take by Francis, not surprising though.

Just because the Flames "passed" on Shinraruk doesn't mean they didn't like him, nor his Grandlund a proven nhl center.

Jim Benning is killing my team. Trading to a rival without giving him any chance in the big leagues. I wonder what soured them on him. He was basically our only potential top line winger so this one is painful.

The Flames drafted five players in 2011. All of them have gone on to play in the NHL. Now, the Canucks have as many of them in their system as the Flames do (and the the Oilers have the other one).

Thankfully, the Flames have kept the best one of the bunch (and went out and acquired another player from that Draft class who's doing pretty well).

Are we trying to move the entire 2011 draft to division rivals?

If the World Cup is not the only non-All Star time Johnny and McDavid play together, I will choke someone.

Sounds like the Canucks were the one shopping here and took the best return they could find.

Cam Tucker @CamTucker_Metro
#Canucks GM Jim Benning says he made calls to acquire a defenceman for Shinkaruk.

#Flames acquisition Hunter Shinkaruk: "Obviously my head is spinning, but I could not be happier."

More from #Flames Shinkaruk: "When you get a chance to play for the team you grew up cheering for, it’s a pretty amazing feeling."
