How any one is arguing for him doing it on purpose even exists is perplexity.

Out of Johnnys' own mouth saying he was trying to pass it to Wideman but it delects in.

Discussion over .
He just didn't want anyone thinking he was crazy or overly cocky. He did it 100% on purpose. I don't know how you don't see it.

There is zero chance he did it on purpose in that he predicted the Winnipeg defender putting his stick in that exact spot at the exact angle but its a high danger play. Monahan and Wideman are both in a dangerous position to do something with that pass too

Is this argument still happening? It was a lucky goal. Which is fine - he was magic the entire game, bounces go both ways. The PP looked great and had multiple high quality opportunities, the one that went in just happened to be a fluke.

It's not like having a lucky goal is a bad thing. Great players get lots of "lucky" goals.

Wideman's positioning is very interesting in that goal. He's pinching in a lot more than a defencemen normally does in a 1-3-1. It seems to be an adjustment that Gelinas made early in the Jets game.

Before

After

It seems that Gelinas has realized with the cross-ice pass from the mid boards winger to the opposite side d-man is too impractical, especially considering that Wideman seems to miss a lot. With Monahan getting so much attention when the slap pass is available, it gives Johnny another option. While it doesn't seem like Wideman was in a good position to recieve the pass, it's still a good idea in principle.

that spot is where Wideman sniped the OT winner on the kings last season...

I was at the game, saw it up close. It was as big of a fluke as it gets. I know we all think of Johnny as this magic wizard, but this ''debate'' is ridiculous. Flukey stuff happens every shift. Sometimes, it results in the puck going in the net.

Haha yeah I was just joking. No way it was on purpose but when you do all the right things you're going to get a lot more 'luck'. I just can't imagine what this team would be like without Johnny. Hopefully he goes on an ironman streak till we get him some backup lol.
