Toronto signed Da'Rick Rogers this week. Interesting signing, was once considered a 1st round pick for the draft before his off field issues at Tennessee.

He's camp fodder. Reilly and Franklin and very good as 1 and 2. He has a slim chance to unseat Lynch as number 3, I guess.

Tyron Brackenridge retired today. For a few years he was the best safety in the league

http://www.riderville.com/2016/04/20...es-retirement/

In other strange news Dan Lefevour signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (maybe I should put that in the other thread...) surely he is just a camp arm but it is always interesting to see a guy not good enough for the CFL signed in the NFL.

Per sources,##Riders#WR Maurice Price has filed his retirement papers with the league office and doesn’t plan on playing in 2016.##CFL

So, I mean, Price could change his mind or be talked into playing maybe, but the papers are definitely filed.##CFL##Riders

I guess the good news for Riders fans is that they don't have to worry about Mo Price prematurely celebrating a TD in a playoff game and coughing up the pigskin.

From what I've read LeFevour was among the worst of the 10 QBs at the Riders mini-camp last weekend. With that being said 2 members of the Tampa Bay offense staff are familiar with LeFevour. Mike Bajakian (QB coach) was an Offense Quality Control Coach when LeFevour was at Central Michgan. Dirk Koetter (OC) was the OC in Jacksonville when LeFevour spent the 2011 season their.

Default CFL, NFL announce officiating partnership

The CFL and NFL will announce a groundbreaking partnership on Friday which will see NFL-trained referees officiate pre- and regular-season games in the CFL. Refs from the CFL will attend NFL training camps and education sessions before working pre-season games in the NFL.

The program, named the NFL-CFL Officiating Development Program, is aimed at giving referees from both leagues the opportunity to improve their skills. But it is also the first step towards having U.S.-trained officials work in the CFL full-time.

The door is about to be opened and while current CFL officials will benefit from this education opportunity, they will also be forced to recognize the impending increase in competition for work.

NFL officials will work within CFL crews during pre-season and regular-season games prior to the NFL season.

They’ll take part in an accelerated education program, teaching them the differences in the games and the nuances of the Canadian league.

A group of CFL officials will be starting their NFL season at the league’s annual officiating clinic in late July.

“Any time our newer officials can get more reps on the field, during practices or games, that will make them better officials,” said NFL Senior Vice President of Officiating Dean Blandino. “The collaboration with the CFL will certainly benefit us as we prepare for the 2016 season and we look forward to welcoming our CFL officiating counterparts to our development program later this spring.”

Several CFL officials will participate in the NFL’s Officiating Development Program, which will include working NFL mini-camps, training camps and pre-season games.

They will also take film study with veteran NFL officials and have their mechanics analyzed.

“This historic partnership gives officials in both leagues an opportunity to hone their craft and get better through shared development activities and more snaps at the pro level,” said CFL Senior Vice-President of Football Glen Johnson. “We’re excited that a group of our officials will actively participate in the NFL Development Program and now have a formal path forward to be considered as prospects in their league.”

NFL referees working CFL games will mostly be side and field judges to minimize the rules differences between the two leagues.

Previously, one of the major stumbling blocks for U.S.-born officials working in the CFL was it took them off the track to the NFL. But a development program between the two leagues could lead to officials graduating from the CFL to the NFL.

The widening of the talent pool from which the CFL can choose referees would create competition and raise the level of officiating on the field.

There are U.S.-born players, coaches, GMs and owners in the CFL. They adapt to the rules and the culture. Referees will prove they can do the same.

Wow, i guess I feel out of touch in this off-season that I didn't know Mo Price is with the Riders. Hmmm... I like Price so this is good. At least I don't have to hate him much in this coming season.

Ti-Cats have released Eric Norwood, should the Stamps take a look at him? He's a beast when healthy. Only 27 years old.

Would it make sense that they released him to save cap space now, but likely still have to pay him insurance money while he is rehabbing his knee injury unless he signs with someone else (dobut it) or is deemed healthy to play. Then when healthy they maybe sign him back in the second half of the season?

But Norwood battled injuries last season, playing in just 10 games, and suffered a serious knee injury in the East semi-final win over Toronto. He would not have been ready for training camp and would have likely missed – optimistically – at least half the season. Norwood was on his second CFL contract and was thought to be making in neighbourhood of $90,000 per season.

Default CFL adding a round to the draft

Good for the league. It gives these kids another opportunity to play a game for living.

The CFL is set to make its Canadian draft one round longer, per sources.

That will make this year’s pick-fest eight rounds and it marks the second time the league has expanded the draft since 2013, when they went from six to seven rounds.

An extra round gives teams a chance to bring more Canadian players to training camp as “non-counters” or athletes that don’t count against a teams’ roster number until the final cuts are made.

That opportunity for a player to display what he can do over a prolonged period of time in a football setting can help ensure less fall through the cracks. Canadian receiver Rob Bagg is a perfect example: he went through the 2007 CFL Draft unselected and signed with Saskatchewan after the draft. Bagg went to camp, proved he could play at the pro level and he’s carved out an impressive career.

The demand for Canadian players has never been higher, particularly since the league added Ottawa as an expansion franchise in time for the 2014 season.#Seventh round draft picks currently on CFL rosters: Martin Pesek and Preston Huggins (Ticats), Kevin Malcolm (Redblacks), Kevin Bradfield (Argos), Anthony Coady (Alouettes), Cameron Thorn (B.C. Lions), Blair Smith (Eskimos) and Andrew Buckley (Stampeders).

I think they were really really pleased with Brett Jones last year before he damaged his knee. In fact it was a real possibility he was going to challenge for the starters role.

Might as well see if lightning can strike twice. Sure doesn't cost them very much.

As I was told by someone today it might be the Kevin Abrams (Giants Assistant GM) effect with all these Canadians ending up with Giants. He's from Toronto and a Western graduate.

Riders have placed DT Tearrius George on retired list due to an alleged domestic violence-related issue, per source. #CFL

@Arielle_Zerr:
.@reginapolice confirm that Tearrius George has been charged with assaulting his partner, a 33-year-old woman.

The release says George allegedly grabbed her throat and pushed her up against the wall. A one-year-old child was present at the time.
