The funny thing is that the fans that tell me, 'Oh man you guys are going to be crazy next year" or "You guys are winning a cup very soon"are other teams fans. Mainly Calgary and Vancouver fans. I must have talked to 20-30 the past while during parties etc and they all say the same thing.
I'm the one who says "hooold on there man. Let them prove it on the ice next year before all this winning talk" lol.
I don't believe this story to be true in the slightest.

That's an odd thing to say. I just moved to Vancouver a month ago from Edmonton. Every single Canuck fan and a few Calgary fans say the same thing to me. They are more giddy about our upstart team than we are lol.
We're like that battered GF/Wife who keeps going back to their husbands hoping things will change....

Im just gonna assume whoever is saying this to you at parties is drunk as all hell and just being polite.

I don't believe any part of your fable. This is coming from a Calgary fan that's been in Vancouver for 7 years. Outside of guys who hang out at the Black Frog, people out here don't think anything of the Oilers. Vancouver fans are still delusional that their team is good. After hearing the Edmonton hype machine, and seeing the colossal failures of the last 10 seasons, I can assure you we don't think your team is an upstart, nor do we get giddy over them. No one gets giddy over a rival getting better. It's disgusting that Edmonton got 4/6 #1 draft picks. It worse that you think every single Calgary and Vancouver fan is excited for you or believes that your team is a Cup contender.

Haha wow, if you needed any more proof how out of touch Ron Maclean is...

“You, honestly Dan, in the new NHL, score your way to the Cup. You don’t win it by having the top goals against any more.”
2015 Blackhawks - Tie for 1st in GA
2014 Kings - 1st in GA
2013 Blackhawks - 1st in GA
2012 Kings - 2nd in GA
2011 Bruins - 3rd in GA
2010 Blackhawks - 4th in GA
2009 Penguins - 18th in GA
2008 Red Wings - 1st in GA
2007 Ducks - 7th in GA
The only outlier is the Penguins, who were a trainwreck most of that season until Bylsma turned it around for them in the playoffs. Almost always, a team HAS to be top five in goals against to win the Stanley Cup.

Wow Edmonton sure is in a league of their own! Or at least they would have to be to win anything. I don't see how anyone thinks Mcdavid-RNH-Hall is better than Seguin-Benn-Spezza who didn't even make the playoffs. The stars also have much better goaltending and defense.

I just cannot see Edmonton winning with that core. McDavid is fine, but the rest of them are cancerous garbage in my opinion. I can see them becoming like a San Jose maybe where they can make the playoffs, but that core will never win a Stanley Cup.
I know it's been forever, but I think with McDavid they could sell hope one last time. I'd blow it up and trade Hall, Eberle, RNH, and Yakupov and start one more rebuild.
