This is the 2nd game in a row, where, IMO, Toews is the one that is battling the puck...he has got to be better.

But again, that suggests accidental deflections are ok, but deliberate ones (like angling your skate blade) are not ok.
I always thought you could deliberately angle your skate to score.

Not always, but you can under the current enforcement standard.
Under the change they made this season, goals off skates are only disallowed if there is a "distinct kicking motion". As they've enforced it, that basically means as long as you keep your skate on the ice prior to making contact, it will be allowed.
