The 1/4 pounder BLT talk inspired me to try it today.
Pretty good.

Can you still buy egg noodle KD. I loved that stuff - but I haven't seen it for years.

I'm with Table on this. The key imo to great KD is very little milk. Too much and the flavor gets diluted.
Also, good home made mac and cheese beats the tar out of KD and I like KD.

Real cheese is better than orange powder. This fact cannot be argued.
I mean really, we'd all eat a piece of cheese, right? Grated cheese, a slice of cheese, cheese and crackers, cheese plate, cubed cheese... I could go on.
Now, how many of us would eat KD powder on its own? Sprinkle a bit of it on a cracker? Toss some in your salad? Put some on some nacho chips and heat it up in the oven? None of us, because that's gross. Therefore, real Mac and Cheese defeats KD.
I will admit that putting some KD on a "kid's style" hot dog is very good. A Schneider's weiner, white hot dog bun, and some hot KD is a real treat.

KD pro tip, seriously try this, the worst that happens is you are out a buck fifty.
1 table spoon margarine/butter.
Powder.
Tear up and stir in 2 kraft singles.
No milk.
The gooeist, creamiest Kraft Dinner you will ever have.

This is kinda how I replicate the Chili's, chili with queso for my kids.
One can of the generic chili (no veggies, or any other fancy stuff...just beans and meat), in a pot with 2 or 3 thick kraft singles (or Velveeta), accompany with a bag of Dorito scoops.
Better than the chili's stuff

No thank you. There are two types of girls I have avoided at all costs throughout my life. The first is a ketchup-chip girl. I can't articulate it any further than that. And I even like ketchup chips (Lay's; not old dutch). But there is a type of girl that can only be described as a ketchup-chip girl and I avoid them like the plague.
The second type of girl from which I have always steered clear is a cheese-slice girl. Unlike a ketchup-chip girl, however, I myself don't like cheese slices so a cheese-slice girl is a notch below a ketchup-chip girl. While I have never actually seen a cheese-slice girl with a cheese slice, I imagine she'd smell like one, would perhaps have some cheese slice mushed into her cuticles from wrapping a cheese slice around her finger and licking/sucking it off (in an off putting, non-sexual way). Uck.
So yeah, I don't think I'll sully my kd with a bunch of cheese slices.

Lays beats Old Dutch on many flavors but Ketchup isn't one of them imo. Old Dutch Ketchup chips have a much higher probability of having that dark red goodness. I find the Lay's ketchup chips to be too subtle.

You want your KD to be the epic'est white trash delicacy?
Cheeze Whiz instead of butter.
You're welcome.

You're right that you'll get more red stuff on OD chips, but you'll get the right amount on Lay's. They did a study on it a while back but I can't link to it 'cause I'm on mobile.

Presidents Choice ripple chips has more ketchup powder than any other brand.

That's because once they're cold they're pretty much unedible.
On a (sort of) related note, has anyone ever had BBQ sauce with McNuggets in the U.S.? I was blown away by how different their BBQ sauce is. The Canadian McNugget BBQ sauce is much sweeter (and better in my opinion, though that's probably just because it's what I'm used to)

Classic Mac and Cheese
Instructions- Heat the milk in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat until it just comes to a simmer, then turn off the heat and set aside.
- In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly until the mixture turns light brown in color, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat.
- While whisking constantly, slowly add the hot milk to the flour mixture until evenly combined and smooth. (It will get very thick when you first add the milk, then thin out.)
- Return the saucepan to medium-high heat and while whisking constantly, cook until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the salt, taste, and season with additional salt if desired. Remove from the heat and set aside.
To assemble:- Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook until it’s almost al dente (just on the edge of being underdone), then drain and rinse with cold water; set aside. (If you plan to top the mac ‘n’ cheese with panko and bake it, heat the oven to 400°F and arrange a rack in the middle.)
- Place the reserved saucepan of béchamel over medium heat and stir in both cheeses just until melted and smooth. Add the pasta and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is heated through and steaming, about 2 to 4 minutes. Serve immediately or, if baking, transfer to a 5-quart baking dish, sprinkle with the panko, and bake until bubbling and brown on top, about 25 to 30 minutes.
