I'm actually kind of okay with it.

There need to be avenues outside of the established system to help teams out. The draft is excellent, but sometimes that isnt enough so I like the concept of being able to potentially exploit the College system or bring in KHLers, etc.

I guess I say that now because we've never been burned by the system, we've actually been beneficiaries, but I like the idea of being able to acquire assets and talent due to being willing to take risks as opposed to tanking or trading for draft picks/places.

Reilly has informed the Blue Jackets he will not sign with them and has narrowed his list to 2 or 3 teams.

Chicago is the expected front runner as of yesterday.

Wow, Between Reilly, Pokka, TVR and Johns. Why do they even need Hjalmerson or Seabrook? So deep on the back end. So good.

Seriously, Pokka and Reilly are top pairing material and Johns and TVR look to be trending towards top 4 material. Insane.

Would be nice if Flames could snag one of those D by being nice to Chicago and helping them with their CAP woes by taking on Bickell's contract.

Even with this dismantling the Hawks will still be a good team.

Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook, Crawford is enough to keep them competitive.

Saad, Hossa, and others still provide great depth.

And now they somehow have a top prospect base.

On the backend they have Pokka, Johns, Paliotta, Trevor Van Reimsdyk, Forsling, and now Reilly.

Up front they have Teravainen, Schmaltz, McNeil, Hartman etc.

Just a factory over there, and if they decide to trade some of their guys they can add to that prospect base. It's crazy.

You forgot Paliotta, who they just signed coming off a very strong season in the NCAA.

Well said.

Something needs to be done to make this a slightly tougher decision for these guys. The reason you get UFA status at the end of 4 years of college is so you have a chance of signing somewhere if the team that drafted you doesn't want you, not so you can just pick whomever you want to play for.

Something like a matching right for offer sheets should exist. You become a different class of RFA where anyone can offer you a contract, but the team that drafted you has the option to match term and dollar.

Conroy was asked about this during the combine.

Sounded like the Flames were willing to make a pitch, but Reilly's camp wasn't interested, even though Conroy didn't actually say it.
