Magic number is 3.

If flames win 3 they are in. Period.

True, if they win 3 they are in. But because some of those games are against opponents looking to take our playoff position, we need to add on that magic number accordingly (magic # = games we need to win + games other bubble teams need to lose). So while the second statement is correct, the first is not.

I think our best hope is that Winnipeg gets stymied by St. Louis and Minnesota. Crossing fingers for that sort of magic.

If we beat ARZ and LA in regulation, that clinches it for us, no?

So our magic number should be 3?

Correct. Though we still are "technically" needing 3.5 to wpg.and for that matter 4 for Van.

Yes, and it should be 3.

Technically though, the Kings could tie the Flames so it has to remain at 3.5.

If the Kings win 2 games in regulation or OT and lose the 3rd in regulation, and the Flames won a game in the shootout and lost the other two in overtime, they would be tied in points and ROW, and the Kings would then have the tiebreaker.

1 is the magical number, its the most magical number since the number 3.

edit: I'm a little too excited right now.

Min and Van have now clinched.

Win & Cgy both need 2 points to clinch (or 1 more kings regulation loss.)

GO JETS GO! Now!

If Jets win on Thursday vs the Avs they clinch a playoff spot. Which means Saturday will mean nothing to them.

All the Flames need to do is get 2 pts in 1 of the last 2 games.

Guaranteed to go into Saturday in a playoff spot.

GO FLAMES GO! Put them away Thursday!

2 points in the next 2 games puts us in, no? LA can't beat us in a tie break.

HUGE game Thursday. Wish I was in town

Yep. Wpg losing now does nothing to help our chances.

I cannot come up with a single scenario where the Flames make the playoffs and don't play Van in the first round.

Van has clinched the 2/3 series

If Calgary beats Winnipeg they are in the 2/3 series for sure.

If Winnipeg beats Calgary, Calgary is the only team LA can possibly catch to make the playoffs. So Calgary will either be in the 2/3 series or out of the playoffs.

Nope

Kings max pts = 97
Flames only beat Kings = 97pts = in
Flames only beat Jets = 97 points = tie breaker = in.

Flames lose both in overtime = 97pts = in

Flames loss to Kings & loss to jets.
Jets = 98 + Colorado game.
Flames = 95 pts + tie breaker
Kings = 95 pts + a games against the sharks,
They need to hope the Sharks win so they are in.

If the Flames add only 1 over time point in the 2 games, they can afford the Kings taking the Sharks to overtime, but the Kings would still have to loss.

The Flames are no longer in the wild card race, they can finish 2nd or 3rd in the Pacific or 9th.

edit, sorry took me 5 minutes to go through all the options, and you figured it out.

To be clear: jets and Flames control their destiny, Kings do not.

Vancouver and Minnesota have clinched a playoff spot and the Flames are only in a need of a single win or LA loss to clinch.

Calgary will likely play the Canucks in the first round if they clinch a spot.

It's certain now. It's Vancouver or out of playoffs. No other scenario. Although they could still claim home-ice with some help from Arizona and Edmonton.
