They'd just be right back where they started.

If they have any sense they're asking for a top Dman, a goaltender and picks/prospects.

They've got to fill holes. Lots of them.

Does Lucic have an NTC?

Would love to hear of another Swing-and-a-Miss for Mr Lowe.

For just such occasions, if I were an NHL GM, I would rig my phone so that by pressing a button, I could transmit a recording of thousands of people screaming with laughter. And I would press that button repeatedly when taking calls from area code 780.

Then Edmonton would too. They aren't going to trade Hall for anything but a stud.

That's nice, but I doubt that the Bruins would be interested in trading a 6 foot 5 absolute stud blueliner for a winger. Its not going to happen.

Then they are going to be sincerely disappointed. I'm talking 'Bachelorette when she sleeps with the guy and finds out that not only is he not a millionaire but actually a garbage-man with STIs' disappointed.

I'm talking disappointment of biblical proportions. Soul-crushing, spirit demolishing disappointment.

Then again, they ought to be fairly used to that by now.

IF, Hall gets dealt, I see it being from a team with an abundance of young D. Hall for Seth Jones type deal.

Well they traded away a young number one center, so id say anything is possible.

This is getting pretty embarrassing, guys. We can all hate on the Oilers without deluding ourselves that their best player is absolute trash. Yes, Hall is a one-dimensional scorer. Many of the top-paid players in the NHL are one-dimensional scorers. Hall is at least as good at his one-dimensional skill-set as James Neal is - he's faster, younger, and stronger - and nobody thinks Neal is worthless trash.

Don't kid yourselves, Hall would bring back a goodly return.

If you mean Seguin, he wasn’t a #1 C when they traded him.

as mentioned here, a trade for Hall will be difficult for 2 reasons: the oilers think he is worth more than he is and if you choose to trade him for established NHL'ers, they typically have NTC's and wont waive.... Mctavish is in a tough spot there

They also traded a Taylor Hall type player in Phil Kessel as well. They don't have a history of trading up and coming defenseman for one way wingers.

No, but they do have a history of trading young stars. I don't think Hamilton is necessarily a "star" yet though.

He was pretty damn close and everyone knew the potential was easily there.

67 points in 2011-2012.

32 points in 48 games during the lockout year.

The thing is, those numbers put him on a dead level with Krejci and Bergeron, who were both better defensively. He was not #1 or even #2 on that Boston team, and of the three, he was the easiest to move for a good return.

I'm gonna try to not make this a Captain Obvious post so here goes: The Oilers have several problems, but in my opinion, Taylor Hall is the least of their problems. Fix the goaltending, and try to get some NHL quality defensemen by moving guys like Eberle and Yakupov.

If I were GM of the Oilers, I would keep both RNH and Hall and hope to win the lottery and draft McDavid. Try to get the best return you can for Eberle and Yak to address the goaltending and defense issues.

Sure, still doesn't mean that it was a good deal for Boston. Its going to continue to look worse as Bergeron/Krejci age and Seguin gets better.

Keep in mind Hall's career high for goals in a season is currently 27. Offensive players tend to score their peak goal number by the age of 25. Hall has just turned 23. He'll need to up his scoring by 50% from current career high's to be a 40 goal guy. A total Neal did hit at 25 while playing alongside Malkin. Prior to that Neal had Hall like goal numbers albeit fewer total points.

I personally think the Oilers should try to shop him for help on defence or a legitimate goaltender. He's the one tradable piece they have that has the best chance to get them one of those pieces.

Really if the Oilers shuffle things around and have a group of McDavid/Eichel, RNH, and Drasaitl down the middle and can parlay Hall and Eberle into a top pairing defenceman and goaltender. I think they would have a much better chance of being a strong team moving forward. Wingers can be acquired, and or drafted outside the premium 2-3 picks in a draft. They can also get up to a reasonable scoring level rather quickly compared to other positions.
