Damn that sucks. I'm there almost every weekend in Beaver Mines when conditions allow, but it's been sucky all year there. A real shame, Castle is my favourite hill.

Damn, Revy is all booked up. Couldn't find a place to stay for me and my buddies so were going to kicking horse. Not expecting much for new snow but at least there should be some good conditions.

Of course, the snow forecast changes for the worse overnight... argh. In 20 years of skiing I can only remember two times where I hit a geniune powder day. Once at Nakiska when I was a kid (10 or 11) and once in Utah in High School. It hasn't been for a lack of trying. We plan all of our ski trips around snow and historical snowfalls at the best resorts for snow. How is it so bloody hard.

Now only looking like a 5-10 cm dusting on Friday in Kicking Horse with no snow on Saturday. Guess packing the extra set of clothes for staying until Sunday was pointless.

O'well! Time to make the best of it.

Booked the day off work and went to Sunshine today. It was actually pretty good. Other then a few spots of high wind, the weather was pleasant and it wasn't really icy. A couple spots in the few glades Sunshine has had powder. But overall still a pretty good choice.

Really, 5 - 10 is just a dusting? What are you expecting - serious question? At KH, 5-10 can easily mean 15 in Fuse or Terminator ridge, how is that not a great powder day?

We got seriously lucky and it snowed 21 cm overnight

All that complaining paid off. I also rented Rossi Sol 7's but I think the guy at the shop overestimated my height/weight (even though I filled it out on the sheet) and told me to grab 188 cm long skis which ended up being a lot of ski to get used too (my skis are 174). I didn't think anything of it cause I know powder skis are supposed to be longer, but I think 180 would've been perfect. My legs were shot by 2 pm.

Snow was fantastic though.

We were out there on Saturday night and it was great. It had snowed 10-15 cm the night before so we were set for a solid day.

Was there Sat as well and it was amazing. Fantastic the week prior too.
However with the warm weather they're getting and the freeze/thaw cycles I assume it will be crap in a few days. That hill gets icy quick.

@Polak - Rossi also markets some of their skis longer than they are (eg - the Sin 7s are marketed as a 172, they're actually a 170). Also with the early rise/rocker you lose a ton of surface area. I normally ski a 168-172, bought the Line Bacons in a 172 and ended up buying a 178 the year after because the 172 felt so short.

YMMV.

Speaking of Panorama does anyone know where you can get discounted tickets for them? I've checked Costco and AMA but neither of them have them listed on their websites.

Costco in store has Panorama tickets. I'm almost certain I saw them this past weekend when I was getting some Whitefish tickets. They sell them as three single day lift tickets.

18 cm forecasted for Sunshine tonight and they already got 69 cm in the last week. Going to be waking up nice and early tomorrow to hopefully get there by 8.

Nakiska is seriously in some sort of vortex for no snow. I don't think they even have an 80cm base yet?

All of those people that bought those super cheap $200 season passes got what they paid for!

Snowpack 64 cm lower, 47 cm upper.

They did have lots of snow the last few years. That may have been a fluke.

It was always weird going to Fortress...you'd drive past Nakiska and could see the bare mountain with only half the runs open, then 30 minutes later you'd be at Fortress riding two feet of powder. I always loved Nakiska in those days because it filtered away all the crappy skiers who opted for the bright new shiny facility over quality riding, leaving Fortress relatively empty.
