Yes. But really it's impossible to predict. It's more like Best case Ekblad/Reinhart/Bennett, worst case Draisaitl/DalColle. There, solved that.

None of that sounds bad

I think best case is Reinhart or Bennett.
Expected case is Draisaitl or Dal Colle
Worst case is Ritchie.

I really think Florida winning the lottery throws a tough situation for Edmonton. With the Panthers probably taking Ekblad, The Oilers next big need is size in the middle and soon, ergo Draisaitl.

Florida winning the lottery was honestly the next best thing to us winning it.

There is no worst case when you're picking fourth.

People sound like idiots complaining about having to draft Draisaitl. "Oh no! A potential big body number one center. Only exactly what we have been looking for, for the last twenty years. Nooooooooo!"

What is the deal with Dal Colle's position? I thought I've read he's a winger who used to play Centre, yet on the radio they had the head of the ISS referring to him as a Centre. It was a lengthy interview with Boomer who also called him a centre. As they went on they said he could play wing in a pinch but very much spoke of him like he's currently a pure centre...

I believe he was a center coming into the OHL, but with older more established centers (Jenner and Laughton last year and Laughton and Cassels this year) already in the top 6 they put him on the wing. So while he is technically a center, he has spent almost his entire OHL career on the wing.

Worst case is Ritchie.

There is no way we have to pick Ritchie. If we can't pick Reinhart Bennet Ekblad we can get Draisaitl or DC. If we can't get Draisaitl, DC or Ekblad we can get Bennett or Reinhart etc. If we end up with him it was because Burkie or someone on the scouting team wanted him. I hope they don't go off the board on their first ever top 5 pick. Picking Ritchie at four would be just that.

Central Scouting has Ritchie @ #7 in their final rankings. That wouldn't be going off the board.

Yea it would. When tier 1 is 4-5 players and then there is a drop off picking a guy from the second tier is going off the board IMO

I think what he meant was more along the lines of picking someone outside of the very clear consensus top 5 - which Ritchie has never been part of.

Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Draisaitl, Dal Colle.

That is the clear top 5.

I don't believe the top 5 is ever clear. We're basing this off of rankings...

Year - Player - Final CSS Rank - Actual Draft Spot
2011 - Hamilton - 4th - 9th
2011 - Beaulieu - 5th - 17th
2010 - Gudbranson - 4th - 3rd
2010 - Fowler - 5th - 12th
2009 - Schenn - 4th - 5th
2009 - Schroeder - 5th - 22nd
2008 - Myers - 4th - 12th
2008 - Schenn - 5th - 5th
2007 - Ellerby - 4th - 10th
2007 - Alzner - 5th - 5th

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the 4th/5th ranked Draisaitl/DalColle drops. Who's going to rise into their place?

There is no consensus in the draft generally and especially not this year.

I've heard two different GM's say that you could take 10 different scouts lists and they'd be completely different in the top 10.

I hear what you are saying but top 10 is way different that top 5. Yes, there will be variations in scouts' lists but everything we've heard is that there is a clear differentiation in the top 5 and the group below. Look at last year where the top six ranked went in the top six. Wild card in this years draft has to be Ritchie and can see a team passing on a Dal Colle and taking Ritchie owing to his power game.

Yeah this is what I hope.

If we have to go winger, I hope it's Dal Colle

Every year is different. This year many are suggesting there are significant gaps after the top 2 and again after the top 5.

I'd have to agree, especially with the x-factor for Dal Colle being that he was a center until this season (I believe it was as recent as that).

If he had only ever been a LW, I think my stance would change.

Unless Dal Colle gets moved back to the middle for the entire year this year I think you 100% slot him as a permanent winger.
