Yeah Detroit isn't going accomplish anything like this.

I expect the coach will calm them down. They're guaranteed to lose if they start man-fighting Boston.

He could've dropped them at any time, he knew they'd be there.

Poor guy was trying to pop Chara in the face but Chara just held him at arms length and laughed. That's gotta be embarrassing

I think he was just trying to draw a penalty if Chara dropped his mitts

Yup. Smith was faking the entire time, trying to draw a penalty. But worst case, and he does end up in a fight he doesn't want, he takes Chara off the ice for 5 minutes.

And it is really fascinating to see how the Bruins are targeting Smith. Interesting game plan.

Franzen was getting a bit dirty on that last shift. Good for him - the retaliation will provide plenty of diving opportunities in the next two periods.

Besides, adding physicality is easy in today's NHL: nutshots are just 5k a pop. Totally worth it.

Yep if chara was coming at me like the end of the period like that I probably would have nut shotted him and made it count. That's assuming I didn't slip in my own urine.

Easy to say from the couch, but in that situation, that would be the easiest match penalty the referee ever called.

of all the players to make it your gameplan to run, why Smith? He's just not a factor.

I wouldn't help Detroit much on the ice anyways

The Bruins seem to be wobbly on their skates today as well, but yes, acting and embellishment has been a hallmark of the Red Wings for years.
