Maybe it;s just not knowing what to expect and the recent success but, this team seems so much more exciting than recent teams from the last 7 or 8 years or so. Maybe it's the low expectations combined with coaching that seems to promote a more wide open, relentless forechecking game, as opposed to a don't fu, we have to make the playoffs kind of coaching style. Just seemed in previous years, you kind of knew what to expect form 3/4 of the team.
Anyways, exciting to watch and even better when they are winning.

Of course WINNING is important even if your team is in rebuilding year. Hartley and Feaster won't be here for the duration of the season if the Flames loses early this season.
Too early in the season to complain about how much your player plays. We are 8 games out of 82. Do you think Joey Mac can play the remaining games in the season even when he's playing well game in and game out? No. Ramo will get at least 30 or more games and that's plenty for a first year goaltender. Even Berra will get a chance to play sometime this season.

I think the issue folks had with Glencross was trying to force that empty net goal. That mindset goes against what Hartley is preaching to the team. I had no problem at all up until he got selfish and tried to force a goal there.
Having said that, Glencross is not dumb. He plays with more passion than anyone else on the team and I love that. Just has to remember it is a team.

I think they mentioned that he was staying with the Hudler family on the pre-game show.

Its true he was trying to force it but Hartley was also screaming at them to take a shot at the open net and they weren't really have much luck at it. He got to focused on it after hearing the coach and lapsed with his team play. I suspect he wouldn't be the only player acting like that in that situation.

Great game yesterday, no particular line stood out as being unreal, but none were noticably bad other than the SOB-Butler pairing. Solid effort from the boys.
Anyone else disappointed in the atmosphere? I was in the PL, which is usually boisterous....they should rename the dome to the library, could hear a pin drop all night

I was impressed with Bouma on the crosschecking play. If he had crosschecked me 4 times in the back I would have wanted to do a Kessel on him but Bouma just took it knowing the game was on the line - great discipline

If I'm Therrien I'm screaming in the locker room for him to grow the eff up. Selfish stupidity cost them at least a point. The flames were on the ropes at the end of the third and he takes a penalty that a peewee player wouldn't. He was the best and the worst on his team.

Nah, it's the cohesive team play and not taking shifts off that is so obvious.
I've only see one button hook so far this year, Glencross last night (it lead to a turnover coming back the other way).
It's all 4 lines doing the same thing. Tough to tell sometimes who the first line is.

Good game again. I like how the Flames are getting the leads in the games. Going up 3-0 is huge in a tough league like the NHL, like Bob Hartley says. Watching the game last night I was confident the Flames were going to hang on and win. Hopefully they can keep going here as I believe this is a good decent team considering it's a rebuild.

There are so many things that the Flames are doing and its coming from the work ethic.
The forecheck is awesome they have three guys in, and they're not turning from hits.
the stretch passes are amazing to watch on the breakouts. The team speed is awesome
The defense is definitely playing a lot more physical this year. They just have to clean up the positioning mistakes that every young team has.
I don't expect this level of effort and energy to go for 82 games, it can't, but to come out of the first 5 games with points in every game, these are points in the bank now.

One thing I also noticed is the increased level of passing. These guys are making LONG tape-to-tape passes, and frequently. I think this is quite the contributing factor.
Previous incarnations of the Flames didn't normally try that, and if they did, they failed miserably.

The old flames tried long, ill-advised passes all the time. Sometimes they were glorious but usually they failed miserably.
I'd say the biggest difference to the team this year is supporting the puck through the neutral zone with short crisp passes.

I think the big difference is the forwards are moving their feet and creating seams for the d-men to make that pass. Previously, under the old system and team, there was forward who was planted up the ice and often lead to missed passes or easy takeaways. The other big difference is they are not always looking for the long pass. Lots of times there is a forward or two down low who is supporting the d-men for a short pass. Mixing up the strategy also leads to more opportunity for that long tape-to-tape pass. Having Brodie, Gio, Wideman, and now Russell also helps. Butler isn't too shabby at it either but not to the same level.

You know what I'm NOT noticing anymore? 50 million OFFSIDES a game.
No more old and lazy Iginla or Tanguay floating up at the other blue line waiting for a rush into the offensive zone and being caught flatfooted and offside over and over again. So nice to see good passing and hard skating from all 3 forwards moving into the attacking zone for a change.
