Monahan would be matched up against the OHL's and maybe even CHL's top players. He won't be playing against the 16-year old scrubs.

If Monahan gets down and stays with Ottawa then I can't see it helping his development at all, that team is garbage. Now if he got traded early in the year to a team like London that has a good skilled squad and a chance to be Memorial Cup contenders I think that would be a good thing for him to be a part of.

I don't know if I agree with him not developing at all. Ottawa by the end would surely trade him to get some assets so he would get playoff experience which is a good thing. Between now and then he would face the other teams top defensive forwards and defense pairing every game. He would definitely have to earn every point he earns in Ottawa. He would also get a WJC tournament thrown in there.

That might be good for his confidence (winning in the CHL - Mem cup) but I think from everything being said of Monahan in training camp so far, his development would be better served by playing at a higher level (ie. NHL). Give him sheltered third line minutes, have him stay and train with the big club and allow him to grow into the top 6 role.

He seems to have all the tools to join the NHL now and he also appears to be physically developed enough to handle himself and not get hurt. Really, that last part is the only thing I am concerned about when it comes to this decision.

I agree that Monahan can learn more in the NHL this season than the OHL.

I think if Monahan has the fitness, strength and mental quickness to play without being unnecessarily exposed to injury, then he should stay. It sounds like he has the fitness and strength from what Hartley was saying.

Just curious, but is there any chance that Ottawa could be persuaded to relinquish his CHL rights so that we could send him to the AHL later in the season?

Would like to see Monahan make the team... Sounds like he's more than mature enough for it and that he has the physical maturity as we'll. he's played we'll enough to earn a spot so far... Hopefully he keeps it up
