Shore was taken 65th last time around, so I sort of expected him to slide a bit more. I see a lot of people that consider him a top ten player of all time, and others that consider him merely a top ten dman of all time (towards the bottom of the list). The four Hart Trophies speak for themselves though; it's just crazy how many great defenders the Bruins have had over the years.

I would say that he was - I mean if you were to put Kiprusoff or Luongo in the same equipment as Plante wore, including the awful shoulder pans and leather pads and they would look the exact same. I don't know if the goaltenders now are better per say or if the equipment that they are playing in is better. The rise in the butterfly style came about predominantly because before goaltenders couldn't play that way because their pads would weigh 50+ pounds due the all the water they would soak up. I think that relative comparisons between players of the same era is a better method to use. Frankly I am looking at players, not technology.

I still think the skill, talent, flexibility, and understanding of angles make any of todays goaltenders better than the ones of the past. I would bet that if you put Plante in modern equipment, he wouldn't even be on the rada for an nhl job.
Obviously this is tough to say as I never saw him play, but just from watching goalies in classic games, there's no compare.

I've had a very specific plan for the team I'm looking to build in this draft... but I'm abandoning it because 'the player' is still available and I just can't let him go by me this time.
We, as a group, should be ashamed that he's being picked as the...
66th overall player
11th overall RW
5th overall long-time Flame
Well, he's found a home with me... I'm confused, yet over-the-moon to be able to select...
RW Jarome Iginla

Well, Iggy was drafted 11th overall so i guess it's fitting that he's the eleventh RW taken.

but 5th overall Flame?!?!
I'll give people a pass for taking MacInnis and even Kipper over him, as they're totally different positions so there are circumstances to consider...
... but Makarov and Fleury??? ... that doesn't make any sense. I love both of those players, but Iginla's NHL career has already far surpassed those 2, and at the same position... I don't think anyone will disagree.
Cue something about Makarov's international play, I guess... I LOVED Makarov as a kid... I wore #42 in every sport I played.. but c'mon, he's no Iggy!!

Thought long and hard about taking Iggy with my selection before you. Just could not justify having 2 rw's before 2 centers.
Kind of wish i picked him to screw you.LOL

I know.. it was a bit hard for me too as I already have Jagr on the RW... I had to abandon my original roster plan to include Iginla... I'm reformulating now though ... I think Datsyuk will end up on a line with Iginla... I'll find someone else for Jagr to play with... we'll see how it goes.

Are we going to pick two extra players then? I think we should, but just want to bring it up again.

I agree to a certain degree, it was one of those things were it was a plan for the team, personally I think that Makarov was the best member of the Soviet team in 1987 and I have watched the Canada Cup a couple of times and he is just a player who I think has a playing style that fits better with Bobby Hull.
I do think that if you were to put peak Makarov vs peak Iginla it would be a lot closer than you are making it out to be.

not NHL peaks... which is what I was referring to... I did write 'Cue International Argument', or something like that... I agree, Makarov was amazing and he remains one of my favorite all-time.
Also, I agree Makarov is a better fit with Hull.. projected chemistry is actually something I'm attempting to take into account here, as I did last time.

Oates to Ovechkin would've made a lot more sense. Damn you!
Although this makes the HFBoards Bossy vs. Ovechkin debate I have been reading a lot more interesting.
