At worst, he'd be right where we picked him last year at 21. I don't see Gauthier making it to 22 so the best comparison would be around where he goes give or take a spot or two.

Here's where the trust comes from:

Jay Feaster is not the dumbest man in the universe. Dumb for dumb, he can't begin to compete with 99% of the people who make up trade rumours.

There is dumb. There is dumber, and there is even dumberer. Then there is weapons-grade dumb, then there is Eklund-grade dumb . . . then there's about 50 feet of crap (thank you, Moneyball) . . . and then there's the kind of dumb that blames Feaster for trades that only exist on Twitter.

I trust that most trade rumours are so far from reality, I would be a fool to worry about them. The only sane reaction is to laugh and move on.

Honest question to the folks here complaining any time its suggested that anyone over the age of 23 is added to the team.... do you really believe that the Flames are not (or should not) going to try to improve the team for the 13/14 season? Do you expect a professional sports team to try to lose on purpose? Id be ashamed of the team if that were the case.

While I don't agree with trading youth for vets at this stage, I don't see any issues with the team improving for this season as well as the future this offseason. Why can't we have both? There seems to be far to many folks on here expecting Feaster to do all in his power to ensure this team is dead last next year. As a competitive person who has played the game my whole life, I can not get behind a team trying to lose, and I'm sure management has the same view. We will need a good mix of youth and vets next season and beyond in order to be a contender one day. There is no reason to ice a team of all under 25 aged players next year.

That philly trade is not that bad, we would get 2 youngish good players and still get a reasonably high pick in the dradt. I don't love it but its no reason to lynch the management team imo.

Maybe I'm overreacting here but Id hate to see nothing but moves for prospects this offseason, I don't want to watch a team get crushed 82 games next year

And what does it say when so many of those ######ed rumours sound plausible?

That some people are incredibly gullible.

Here's how the logic goes:

'I heard trade rumours X, Y, and Z, and they're all totally ######ed. But Feaster would do them, because Feaster always does ######ed things. And Feaster always does ######ed things, because look at how many ######ed rumours you hear with his name on them!'

Remember the old adage: Where there's smoke, there is some idiot getting stoned. Fire is an optional extra.

Rumours out of Buffalo say there is talk between the two teams for the 6th overall. Take it for what it's worth.

I don't get why you come into a trade rumour thread? If you don't like the tweets, and you don't like the comments by posters on the tweets, what's the point?

Fair enough. I also agree with you that this would be a move for Feaster trying to hold onto his GM job for a bit longer. In the short term Coburn and Read would definitely improve our roster; much more than whoever we draft at 6th. In the long term they'll be useless by the time we're legitimately competitive again. If we were a club that had just underperformed this season I could see the sense in a move like this, but that's clearly not the case.

Well, yes, you have to have some veterans, but you have to have the sort of veterans that will help in a rebuild with mentoring and all that. Ference - yes. McGrattan - yes. Prust - yes. Tanguay - no. SOB - no. What you basically want is (good) youth, plus veterans that will help the transition to the next core. Giordano may be one of those people. Read and Coburn? Not that good, no attachment to Calgary, don't strike me as the mentoring sort. Ideally, you want some Warrener-type guys - classic Bull Durham character.

Yup they'll never be bad enough and especially the last 5 years they've seen the failure up north. Flames are re-tooling, not rebuilding.

And yes it may be stupid and we may be in for more 9th place finishes but we're not picking top 5.

If it came down to either Lindholm or Monahan at the sixth pick........I would do that trade for Seguin. If it was Nichushkin or Barkov....Probably not.

Either way I think the Flames do good. Selling the 6th + Gaudreau (two unproven entities) for one Proven 21 year old right handed center is a fair deal. But I would love it more if we could have Seguin+Nichushkin going into next season. Call me a greedy bugger.

But still having the #22 and #28 picks and getting a Hartman or Zykov definitely lessens the blow of not watching that kid at six slap on a Flames Jersey.

I was just pondering the idea of #6 + #22 (or 28) for #8 + #16 to myself an hour ago. I'm just starting to get the feeling the Flames might be after Shinkaruk or Horvat and probably would think they can get either at 8, so would love to move up to 16 with one of the other picks.

Pure speculation but interesting to see rumors out of Buf that may lend some credence to my thought.

[Edit] To be clear, not sure I like the idea or not, think I'd rather Lindholm or Monahan, but not totally against it either.

Let's face it, for the vast majority, their highest value was on draft day prior to the pick. If Feaster could parlay the potential people see in the #6 pick to a known young centre, he'd be a fool not to consider it.
Fata! Look at all those bolds...I mean, busts.

Personally, I don't even want Seguin,

I want this new flames team be built around players that WE draft, and here's hoping for Nichushkin be available for at #6 for us, the guy is a beast! and somehow we package up gio + other pick (whatever that may be) for 5th overall, and grab our long awaited #1 centre. THATS WHAT I AM HOPING FOR TOMORROW. Not a big Gio fan, never was.

Baerstchi - Lindholm / Barkov / Monahan - Nichushkin (future first line)

This.

But keep in mind, a lot of the ones who are mocking people for being panicky are the same ones who applauded the Richards and O'Rielly moves as bold.
