I think the floor should be torn out, but there's a lot of indecision right now due to fear of losing access to the basement and also possible unforeseen issue.

So I was helping out a place in Elbow Park today, and met a guy who knew Bill and Andreas from Discovery Ridge. Small world.

So I've taken the day off work tomorrow and want to help out someplace. Any CPer's still need a hand getting stuff moved out or destroyed?

My wife has the day off tomorrow and wants to help. Anyone need help? Or can recommend a place for her to go (not very assertive)?

Does she drive or want to drive a bit? If so, I just got back from Siksika and they really need help sorting out donations. They are really pretty overwhelmed by all the stuff that keeps getting delivered and eagerly welcome any help. I spent over 5 hours just sorting diapers and still didn't finish if that gives you any idea.
The generosity of people from this province and beyond is really outstanding. If sorting donations appeals to her, she just needs to go to the Deerfoot Sportsplex in Siksika (very easy to find, but check in first at the High School right beside it) and they will put her to work for sure. I drove out tonight from Valley Ridge in NW Calgary and it didn't take me very long at all.

If anyone wants to help over the weekend but doesn't have any link to anyone affected, and are able to assist in Elbow Park, let me know via PM. The big stuff is done for the most part but there is a lot of smaller stuff still. He's not on CP but a friend of mine for 30 years.
Thanks.

So I've been wanting to help out but the issue is I have a torn knee. I don't want to be more of a hindrance by collapsing in agony in the midst of cleaning up with a bunch of strangers.
I can shore things up with a brace and painkillers, but is there something not involving turning on to my left knee that I can help with? Carrying boxes?

We cleaned out the basement of the pharmacy in Chinatown just south of GeeGong. Massive amounts of stuff in the basement of these little places. There were various crews helping store owners gets their small businesses back on their feet. I believe they also helped some seniors too. I suspect there will be more work in this area tomorrow, just check out YYCHelps. It wasn't someone's home but the pharmacy and other shops serves many of the seniors in the area.

What down to Mission this afternoon when I finished work early and wow what an experience, maybe either was because it was much later in the week or later in the day than when I went to Sunnyside, but the places I was called into had probably 50 people each tearing out the basement, so there was literally nothing for me to do.
The guy and I who went down decided to go and find someone else who needed help.
Almost every place we went to had either a ton of people or nothing left to do. We finally gave up and started heading back to where we parked and found a lone guy sitting in front of a house. We talked to him for a minute and found out that he had been doing it by himself pretty much all day. So we helped him pull the studs and subfloor out for a couple hours.

I spent the day in Bowness tearing up and cleaning a couple of basements. One of the houses on Bow Cr. near the curve of the river (unbelievably close to the river) had extensive damage on the main level as well - the river was basically flowing through the house during the flood. Almost the whole house is down to studs.
The clean up is getting closer to the point where there's less to do for regular citizens without specialized skills. Nevertheless, definitely go out there and help how you can - even things like shoveling mud is greatly appreciated, it seems, by those affected.
There's also going to be a bunch of parks cleanups too, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested in volunteering.

FYI - Went to the Erlton and Mission volunteer locations today and they appeared to have a huge turn out, so we headed out to Bragg Creek. Lots of volunteers, but lots of work to do as well. They need lots of heavy lifting as well as skilled labor. Trucks and trailers are in pretty high demand for junk removal. We spent our day helping with exterior clean up on white Ave. Lots of opportunities to help.

I have to give a huge shout out to the way the police have acted during this. Just awesome to deal with downtown. On thinking we were about to get lectures/fines/loss of beer upon cops approaching with our open alcohal everywhere. "It's all good, as long as you're here to help and you keep it reasonable, there's no issue on our end". "Thanks officers". "Thank you guys for coming down".

As you are a volunteer I would hope that you are assuming all risk of personal injury. If you were to litigate against someone who is already a victim, you are are an a######.

The victim is the one who is benefiting from you being there. They should carry a degree of responsibility while you're there.
