What's funny is that Feaster will only get a 2nd or a 3rd for him and then posters will litter the resulting thread with 'what did you expect?' and 'peoples' expectations are too high'

RR is a UFA his contract doesn't matter...if he had another year left they couldn't give him away

That's funny because, with Iginla, they used the term 'rental'

If Calgary picks third and Mackinnon and Jones are gone
do you take Drouin or Barkov?

I keep posting that i want two of the top 4 centres, but then I go on youtube and watch a Drouin highlight package and change my mind again hahaha.
The guy is so explosive. Looks like Giroux out there. Maybe Drouin in the Flames interview tells them, "I know you've been looking for a centre for years, I am your guy, I've always been a natural centre, pick me".
Glad i'm not making the decision and get to criticize whatever they decide

Of the teams in the bottom who would be willin to part with their first though?
Also, I think we could get another top 5 pick of we included our 2014 1st rounder. No doubt we will be just as next year so it will be extremely valuable. Maybe one of this years 1sts + 2014 1st for another top 5 pick of this year.
We potentially lose out on Ekblad next year, but we draft two #1 centers this year or MacKinnon and Drouin.
I'd do that.

Just a thought.
Would anyone be willing to do Baertschi + St. Louis 1st for a 1st in the top 3?
I think I would.

Personally, I would pick Drouin. I would be tempted to take Drouin over MacKinnon as well, but that's just me. I would be happy with any 3 though.

Maybe more fitting for this thread than the trade speculation thread;

Values probably off, but Nick Bjugstad is a 6'6" (aged 20), NHL ready center playing in college. His value i'd say is a tier below Sven, but the fact that he's a big center, and a college player makes me think they'd be interested in him.
Then draft, Nathan Mackinnon and Jonathon Drouin and we are set on offense.

Tough... but I wouldn't. Baertschi is an elite prospect and could turn out to be just as much of a franchise guy as the top guys this year. Work every other angle (including using other 1sts) outside of trading Sven or Brodie to acquire another top 5-10 pick. We've already invested some time in Sven too, and I wouldn't want us to sacrifice that.

In my dream scenario flames move up their St. Louis and Pitsburgh 1st's to get in the 8-14 range to pick one of Pulock/ Ristolainan/ Nurse/ Zadorov if not, then I'll be glad with a Monahan or Lindholm. Then with their get Mackinnon with their 1st overall pick
If they decide to keep all the picks they've traded for, I hope they draft Robert Hagg. He looks like a real good D prospect.
I just pray the Flames stay away from shorter players like Nick Petan / Max Domi unless they pick them up in the 3rd or something

No. Baertschi is already close to NHL ready, and if this rebuild is going to work we need to be able to cycle young talent in at a comfortable pace rather than throw them all in the roster at once(like in Edm).
I would possibly attempt to move up by expending one of the picks and a player if it was on the table, but moving Baertschi is a non-starter. And I do think that down the line any of the top 3 should be better than Sven.

I hope they use all their first rounders and hope that they DON'T trade them for veterans on big deals.

I would be curious how expensive it would be to move up into the top 4 or 5. Would it cost more than the Pittsburgh 1st and the St. Louis first?
On the other hand, picking players wherever we have our picks might be the wise thing to do. Lots and lots of very good players have come from the middle to late rounds. I am hoping Calgary still manages to make a few moves to give themselves more assets to either move up, or to just 'scatter-shot' across the first 2 rounds and hope they hit a couple of diamonds past their own pick.
I think the Flames will try and move up to take Monahan - will be a bit 'cheaper' to buy into than the top 4, and he could very well drop to 7th or 8th.

What are the chances the GMs spaz out and the Russian kid Nichushkin is still around at ~15, sort of like Grigorenko was?
If he's available do we take the risk?

Very doubtful Nichushkin drops out of top 10, no chance here's there by 15. Risk is worth reward after the 8-10th ranked player.

We'll probably have a good chance at top 3 pick by the looks of things anyway.

I wouldn't shy away from Max Domi because of size although I agree with the general sentiment. Here's what his coach has to say about him. He has type 1 diabetes though I wouldn't mind if we picked him.
Quote:
"He has extensive offensive skills and his skating ability is -- and I hate to say it -- [Sidney] Crosby-esque," London coach Dale Hunter said. "You never want to compare [a player] to someone like that, but he has a very strong lower torso, so his center of gravity is amazing."
