Meh, I would put the chances of a new GM trading one of the Flames 6 or 7 (and this might be a stretch) legitimate NHL prospects who are under the age of 24 as highly unlikely.
Our prospect pool is so shallow ( not putting this on Feaster) that it could legitimately be wiped out and restocked in two years.
-Two or three goalies that are hit or miss and no real way to project.
-Some checking centers, wingers and low pairing Dmen
-A big center and a tiny skilled forward that will both have to max out in potential to make an impact in the NHL.
-One skilled winger who should make the team next year.
The old "intellectual honesty" , "fooling me twice" and "marshaling our assets".
Then, the biggest bosses stepped in.
Priceless.
It is hard not to feel bad for the guy, he seems like he knows what they need to do but is just not allowed to do it.
I can imagine his conversation with Brent right before Brent quit:
Jay- Hey Brent, we are going to return basically the same team next year
Brent - Jay, this team sucks, it is a miracle that we did as well as we did this year, the only time we had real success was when we had all those injuries and I had some guys that actually listened to the coach
Jay - I know but we are not rebuilding, every game matters Brent
Brent - I cannot comeback and coach this team
Jay - Ok, we will let you go then.
Only a select few morons thought that this team was anywhere close to being a bubble team after last year and going into this year, unfortunately the owners were in that select group of morons.

You dont think the 7 figures he has made selling false hope to the" morons" helps him sleep better at night. The guy is a Yes man and a snake oil salesman.

I do not think he sold false hope to the morons, I think he was told by the morons that there was hope after he told them this team was hopeless.

If what you say is true then Feaster is an even bigger idiot. I can at least respect Feaster if he made the assessment that the team was a couple of changes and or pieces away from being an NHL playoff (with him and not Darryl making the decisions) and sold ownership on it. I can even respect the man for selling ownership the idea that the team doesn't need to rebuild and he's the man to turn things around (just so he gets the job). I cannot respect the man if he changed his assessment because some owner or President of an NHL club convinced him that a team in need of a rebuild really don't. I can't even respect him if he was "inspired" by what ownership told him and decided that the team can indeed be successful without having to rebuild.
Personally, I think Feaster made pretty much all the moves he wanted to make, but who knows.
Feaster's comments and then actions make it seem pretty clear that he hasn't been given the authority to play out his plan more, whatever it is.
one could argue that he should be commended for going away from the norm wiht the ROR offersheet (let's ignore the legal implications of the move) to try to get young players that can play without having to "scorch the earth" and suck for x years.
at the end of the day, this flames fan is tired of the type of result vs action taken the last 3 seasons. I am frustrated at whoever is making the call to standpat and tweak rather than start anew and change direction. I don't know enough of who's fault it truly is, so i see it fit to blame the person sitting in the role that is defined to manage the flames roster, and that is Feaster. Is the problem higher up? Who knows, it doesn't really matter to me, as long as it is resolved.
With the old saying, "where's there is smoke..." (no, I don't mean his at a barbeque). There is a lot of trade talk, I do hope he is busy working the phones and meeting other GM's setting up some trades.
Its just too quiet for nothing to happen, as strange as it sounds.

your right this is a stark difference to previous years where he has been vocal and almost nothing big came out of it. This year its a pretty eerie feeling, Its sinking in that Iggy most likeley would be traded.

Are you sure you didn't just misinterpret things? It seems pretty clear to me that Feaster often says a bit too much without thinking.
This is the same guy who didn't think his Lightning team needed to rebuild even though his team was competing for the #1 overall pick and missed the playoffs the previous year.
If Feaster pulls off any of the deals that are in the other trade speculation thread then I think he'll have done his job quite well. If he can get all four teams bidding against each other he might be able to land a conditional second round pick if Jarome signs. That would be pretty cool
Just confirmed huge news. Feaster has sent email to 29 teams saying Babchuk and Sarich are available. Unfortunately it went to most teams junk email box
@SportsnetSpec: Just told Flames GM Jay Feaster sent an email to 29 GMs informing Anton Babchuk and Cory Sarich are available. Both have NTCs.
