It's the NHL press conference I believe after the BOG meeting to vote on CBA.

Be interesting to hear the real reason(s) for Burke's dismissal, because the press conference we just saw was pure fluff, a waste of time. Hopefully the true story starts leaking soon.

We'll just have to wait for Brian's wife to call Bob McCown's show.

He's right. If they knew in 2012 that Burke didn't want to trade for Luongo they should have fired him then and by now the smoke would have cleared and on Sunday they could announce the Luongo trade and it would have been drama free. Now if/when they announce the deal there is going to be a lot of drama and 2nd guessing of ownership meddling as well as added pressure on Luongo. Typical Leafs dysfunctional ownership.
Really spare us the BS that you had been thinking about this for months and just decided that optically the worst timing for this announcement was in owership eyes the right time. Burke doesn't strike me as a man is going to change the way he operates and acts and if the ownership didn't like the way he conducts himself they surely would have come to that conclusion last year. Fools!

It pains me to do this, as I loathe Steve Simmons, but this is an old article referencing the rumours that have floated around Toronto for awhile.
Perhaps the Luongo deal is what actually triggered this. I, however, don't think it was a hockey related firing.

Given the press in Toronto calling the mother of Reimer to see how his concussion rehab was going, I expect whatever the story is will get uncovered at some point through some janitor or maid. This gives those fringe sports reporters that are drowned out by the main guys, a chance to make a name for themselves by breaking this...so the race is on after this vanilla press conferemce.
Apparently in addition to getting taken off the plane, Burke and all the MLSE brass were at the Marlies game last night too...so something's gone off the rails really quick.
Maybe Burke didn't want to give up his Telus phone and the Rogers/Bell combo owners didn't like it?

Sounds like it's something that had been pondered for a while that was triggered by a disagreement (Burke didn't want to give the the assets Gillis was asking for?) or event (Burke being Burke and opening his big mouth to the wrong person?). The truth will likely leak out and it seems the Luongo to Toronto rumours will come to fruition.

Agreed...if this had occurred after last season or even during this season and the leafs were low down the conference standings, i could buy what they were selling today.
Something else happened, and there is no way around it.

No, I'm saying his conduct surrounding his marital problems may have contributed. Lots of rumours around Toronto that brings me back to the Chris Pronger exodus from Edmonton.

As for ownership meddling in Flames hockey decisions, if we can believe Keenan and if we can believe Darryl, Keenan said that his firing came from above the GM position.
Darryl keeps his mouth shut because he wants another job, whereas Keenan pretty much deep sixed his chances.

Speculation: Leafs owners want Luongo. Burke was dragging his feet because the price tag was too steep. Solution? Hire Nonis. Surely he can seal a deal for Luongo, since he already has once with the Canucks.

@DamoSpin: Bell/Rogers are 50-50 partners. But those in the know say Bell's George Cope is clearly the lead suit. And he hated Burke.

Draft Pick

Investment decisions trump hockey decisions.
The impact of making the playoffs on MLSE HRR would be huge.
The compressed schedule requires expediting measures to make the playoffs.
No time to pander to egos.
