iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 drop test – Samsung fans, it’s not looking pretty
Quote:
Well, as much as we hate to admit it, the iPhone 5 did amazingly well in our drop test, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 came out in pretty bad shape. It’s the cold hard truth that we can’t hide and we can’t ignore.

That video was posted in the iPhone 5 thread, there was really no control in the experiment. The iPhone luckily landed on it's side every time and avoided landed on the screen. This current iPhone does seem to be an upgrade on the 4/4s though (durability)so that's good.

Mind you, some of them are arriving already dinged up!

When Apple VP Phil Schiller took the stage on September 12th to talk about the company’s new iPhone 5 hardware he went on at length about the exacting level of precision that goes into its manufacture. But despite Apple's insistence that its tolerances are measured in microns, several iPhone 5 owners are reporting that their new devices are arriving with a variety of scuffs and scrapes out of the box

It's bad enough reposting things already being discussed but now you're reposting Fanin80 stuff.

Apparently first weekend sales are not as good as expected.

Quote:
Opening weekend sales grew 70 percent between the 3GS and the iPhone 4, and then an astounding 135 percent between the 4 and the 4s. That's acceleration. iPhone 5 sales, meanwhile, grew only 25 percent. That's massive deceleration.

5 million sales in one weekend isn't as good as "expected"?
News to me.
Considering stock issues, I am pretty sure they expected roughly this figure

"Apple on Monday said first weekend sales of the iPhone 5 topped five million, beating the opening weekend for the iPhone 4S nearly a year ago by 1 million units."
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/story/2...les/57834504/1

The iPhone 5 launched in nine countries last Friday, and will debut in 22 more countries on Friday, September 29.

There are a lot of people that expected between 6-9 million sales. I guess to them its not as good as expected.

I am really not sure which company can maintain and beat a 135% increase in sales year after year. And the analogy to big movie releases with phones sold over the weekend is pretty ridiculous. Apple never released enough stock to exceed 5 million phones, it looks like, so how could it have sold any more. Pent up demand will be satisfied over the next six months.

Didn't someone mention that the 5 million phones are actually in the hands of customers? Not online orders in transit. Not sitting on shelves. Not even the pre-orders that haven't made it to the customer yet.

I would think sold equal sold. When you purchase it online you've bought it, that's a sale.

When you pre-order from Rogers like I did you don't pay for it upfront.

I pre-ordered the Friday you were able to and I still haven't received mine, so while I have an order for it and Rogers has purchased it, it doesn't actually count as a sale until it's in my hand and my cash is in theirs.

There are probably a million or so or more people like me still waiting to pay for their pre-order.

On their end, that's considered a sale. It's one less unit they have, that they're giving to you. It might not be finalized, but it's a sale.
