-Sad the Olympics are over already. they were happy and glorious.
-Overall, I would give London a 9.9 0ut of 10. Awesome Hosts!
-The best of British Music? you dropped the ball big time on this London!
-Note to RIO: Please make your opening/closing ceremonies less than 3+ Hrs long!
-Best Moment of London 2012: Brian May guitar solo/medley...Awesome!!!
-Worst Moment of London 2012: Posting Canada 3rd in 4x100 prematurely.
PS: I believe the "I believe" song will be with us for decades too come, If they had any sense they would adopt the 88 winter Olympic theme by David Foster cuz it's still as awesome as it was 24 years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdzJhFyN0MY
I believe is dead!
CBC will go back to it's own song

Methanolic, great post and I definitely agree with you on that it is sad the games are over. I like the reference to the national anthem. The music selection was entertaining, but, was disappointing overall. The United Kingdom has better music to choose from. No debate on the best and worst moments. I disagree on the length of the two ceremonies, it can go on longer. Finally, the David Foster composition is an Olympic masterpiece. I always enjoy listening to it and playing the song in a symphonic orchestra (I play the tuba).
GirlySports, it is a good thing I believe is dead. That song should be permanently banned from future Olympics. You are correct, the CBC and SRC's Olympic music is terrific.
Click on the Olympic Flame which is in the sports section for the best version of this music. http://www.majomamusic.com/

For a country that produced led zep, Floyd, Bowie, the Stones, Beatles, Who, radiohead, queen, sabbath, Clapton, Maiden, Elton John etc the music sure sucked.

Def Leppard
Yes
The Police
The Kinks

After 2002, I downloaded so many copies of CBC's Olympic theme- grew up with that. I think Vancouver 2010 was a bit of a letdown because of the lack of that music
Hopefully Brian Williams hops back to the mothership for Sochi.

Totally agree. I know he can't do them forever but for me he is always a huge part of the Olympic experience. I am going through Olympic withdrawal and it's only been a couple hours lol.
I actually like the "I Believe" song but I can't stand the male version. I think my favorite would be the one CBC used during the Turin Olympics.

Not sure who might be watching the CTV rebroadcast right now, but are they skipping over huge chunks of the closing ceremonies?
You could be right and it may vary on which channel you are viewing. Most channels are airing the ceremony in 3.5 hours, others are allocating four hours.

Best of the ones posted is Athens...a little quicker then the others, plus more actual athletes not "dummy" athletes or abstract stuff.
Plus the grunting they through in there reminded me of playing Age of Empires way back when...
"I Believe" was probably good for Vancouver after all was said and done, given the leadup to the Games, with Donald Sutherland voiceovers, and the theme being the hope for the "first Canadian gold on home soil" hype. But as a one off...should've went with something different for a non Canadian games.
But, glad its gone...CBC will probably need some help pulling this off, but CTV used more then one broadcaster to do other events that CBC used to do themselves, so as long as the online portion is there for CBC, they should be able to use International feeds...just a matter of what alternate channels they can use that reaches everyone in Canada.
I just turned on NBC's Closing Ceremonies coverage and the Spice Girls bit was starting, so I decided to keep watching because the Eric Idle bit was shortly after that.
As they started driving around the stadium, they cut to a shot of London's mayor dancing along. I'm pretty sure CTV didn't show that but it was hilarious.
